Job summary

SkILs reablement support helps people get their independence back at home after an illness, injury, or life change.

The SkILs Service supports adults with various requirements from a range of communities, using a person-centred approach, to enable them to maximise their independence and recovery.

Main duties of the job

  • You will be transporting several SkILs Support Workers by car daily to peoples homes who are using the service.
  • You will use technology and communication equipment as necessary.
  • You will ensure that essential records relating to the work of the post e.g. vehicle log sheets, timesheets, safety documents etc. are completed fully, promptly and accurately.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring that all resources used e.g. vehicles and equipment, are kept clean, safe, in good order and condition and are not exposed to the risk of loss, damage or theft.
  • You will undertake your work in accordance with established health and safety procedures using issued PPE where appropriate and to report defects, and safety concerns to the appropriate Supervisor or Manager

Job Description

Job purpose

The main purpose of the job is transporting our SkILs Support Workers by car to peoples homes who are using the service. The SkILs Reablement Service offers care and support for adults and older people The SkILs Reablement service is delivered by trained and competent staff to provide short term care and support to adults in Leeds to enable them to develop and regain daily living skills to maximise independence.To ensure SkILs Support Workers are transported safely and efficiently across the city, enabling them to make best use of their working hours, providing care and support to people who require it.

Responsibilities

  • To drive an allocated vehicle in order to collect passengers from an agreed pick up address to agreed destinations at the specified time
  • To comply with the Local Operational Procedure requirement for safe vehicle checks e.g. daily visual inspection of tyres, lights, oil etc.
  • To use technology and communication equipment as necessary.
  • To ensure that essential records relating to the work of the post e.g. vehicle log sheets, timesheets, safety documents etc. are completed fully, promptly and accurately.
  • To ensure that all resources used e.g. vehicles and equipment, are kept clean, safe, in good order and condition and are not exposed to the risk of loss, damage or theft.
  • To ensure that all work is undertaken in accordance with established health and safety procedures using issued PPE where appropriate and to report defects, and safety concerns to the appropriate Supervisor or Manager
  • To liaise with Business Support Officers to obtain programme of work.
  • You will transport safely and securely confidential client data for the purposes of collections.
  • To work as part of a team and to share best practice with colleagues.
  • To advise the management team of any problems relating to the vehicle.
  • To improve own practice through observation, evaluation, discussion with colleagues and line manager.
  • To work collaboratively with colleagues, knowing when to seek help and advice.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos, work, and aims of the service by attending relevant meetings, training days/events as requested.
  • Be aware of and comply with Leeds City Council policies and procedures e.g. child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
  • The Council has adopted a flexibility protocol and this role will be expected to work within these parameters.

  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload

  • of the public
  • Ability to identify issues that need to be referred to a manager
  • Ability to use manual and computer information recording systems
  • Ability to undertake the mandatory in service training for the role
  • Ability to follow and understand manufactures information regarding equipment.
  • Possession of licences/qualifications relevant to the work of the post e.g. appropriate driving licences.
  • Knowledge of the requirements of policies, procedures and staff instructions, including responsibilities under the Health and Safety, and COSHH regulations and policies.

  • Awareness of the use of databases, email and internet sites
  • Experience of using computerised information recording systems.
