Job summary

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and experienced Occupational Therapist, with experience of working in Social Care, to manage the Disability Services Team in the North West of the City. The team includes Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy assistants and Rehabilitation Officers Visual Impairment.

As well as the area Disability Services Team, the Team manager is also responsible for the 2 Occupational Therapists in the Community Wellbeing Service, a new service working with home care providers with a reablement and rehabilitative focus.

This vacancy has become available due to the retirement of the existing manager.

You will have experience of working in social care, with a good knowledge of legislation relevant to social care, adaptations, equipment and moving and handling practices, including single handed care, but importantly, experience of managing, or working alongside, a team of diverse practitioners with differing-levels of knowledge and experience.

Main duties of the job

As a team manager you will lead and develop high quality Occupational therapy to support adults and older people, to remain living in their own homes for as long as possible, using an strength based approach with an occupational focus, in identifying barriers in their lives and providing solutions.

The Disability Services teams have a high demand for their services and the manager is responsible for the prioritisation, allocation and management of the workload.

Staff work closely with health and social care - colleagues in the Neighbourhood Teams along with Social Workers, Nurses, other therapists and Support Workers.

CPD is supported including through peer groups with other Disability Team Managers.

Opportunities are available to be involved in development work for the Disability Services Teams as well as within the Council and with other agencies. We provide opportunities for all our registered OTs to support student education and to gain skills in the supervision and support of unregistered staff and new graduate OTs.

The manager will be part of the Disability Management team with 6 other managers. The supervision of the team managers is undertaken by the Service Delivery Manager, who is also an Occupational Therapist.

To ensure that people who are registered sight impaired, or severely sight impaired receive appropriate assessment and support.

Responsibilities

Responsible for delivering within their service area agreed business and service priorities for Adult Social Care.

The appropriate allocation of work and motivation of the Disability Services Team.

Deal with all staff management issues promptly, including recruitment & selection, probation and supervision of New Graduate Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Rehabilitation Officers (visual impairment), Occupational therapy Assistants staff, attendance management, staff supervision, performance, grievance and disciplinary issues with assistance and support from local HR and BSC.

To ensure high performance standards are met by monitoring self, individual and team performance and identifying developmental and training needs where appropriate.

To ensure that casework is the subject of planning, review and evaluation.

The effective use of resources and management of appropriate financial resources within available budgets and under the supervision of the Service Delivery Manager.

The delivery of Safeguarding in accordance with agreed Directorate policies and procedures.

Carry out the role of a member of the Area Management Team and Adaptations Operations Group, deputising for others where deemed necessary.

Contribute to departmental working parties as required.

To contribute to developing and improving the Directorates understanding of Occupational Therapy using a strategic, creative and innovative approach to service development and delivery.

To demonstrate continuous professional development to enable registration with the HCPC.

To participate in and provide training and development activities as necessary to ensure up to date knowledge, skills and continuous professional development.

To undertake other duties appropriate to the post as required by the Service Delivery Manager.

To comply with the requirements of all Leeds City Council policies, procedures and staff instructions, including responsibilities under the Health and Safety Policy and Procedures.
