Job summary

City of York Council is offering an exciting opportunity for Registered Nurses and Midwives to join our transforming 0-19 Healthy Child Service. We are looking for high quality, innovative and enthusiastic individuals with a passion for improving outcomes for children and young people.

Main duties of the job

Our Healthy Child Nurses work in the 0-11 Health Visiting teams or in the School Aged Health Team. The role is varied, interesting and fulfilling and provides opportunities to make a real difference to children, young people and their families.

Working as a Healthy Child Nurse you will contribute to the development and delivery of public health initiatives to promote the health and well-being of children and young people, enabling them to reach their full potential. You will deliver programmes of support in various community settings, early years settings, school settings and in the homes of families as delegated by Health Visitors and School Nurses.

You will be working alongside a range of partners including early help providers, childrens services, education, housing, adult services, the voluntary and community sector, primary and secondary health services and of course children, families and communities.

Working with children, young people and their families across the 0-19 agenda promoting health, preventing ill health, identifying health needs and recognising unmet health needs through use of evidence-based practice.

Working under the leadership of the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse, the post holder will deliver direct work with children, young people and families and play a part in building community capacity to contribute to the Healthy Child Programme High Impact Areas and the local Joint Strategic Needs Assessment.

The post holder will enable access to health services, as appropriate, and strengthen the quality of health education in community and school settings and provide targeted outreach.

They will provide advice and guidance, signposting and supporting interventions to all children and young people as part of the 0-19 Healthy Child Programme with a progressive universalism approach, based firmly on proven Public Health evidence to target those at risk of poor outcomes.
