Job summary

City of York Council is offering an exciting opportunity to join our developing 0-19 Healthy Child Service. We are looking for high quality, innovative and forward looking registered nurses with a minimum of 2 years post registration experience with a passion for delivering good outcomes for children and young people. Working as a Children and Young Peoples Health Outreach Nurse you will work alongside the School Nurses to develop and implement public health initiatives to promote the health and well-being of children and young people, enabling them to reach their full potential. We offer excellent support, training and development and corporate membership with School and Public Health Nurses Association (SAPHNA). Main duties of the job

We know that isn't the case for everybody though and that is where the Healthy Child Service comes in. The successful candidates will join the Healthy Child Service within Public Health. The Healthy Child Service works alongside early help services, housing, adult services, the police, the voluntary and community sectors, the wider health economy and of course families and communities themselves.

Essential

  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Willing to undertake further training as required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Information Governance, professional record keeping requirements, confidentiality and consent
  • Competent communicator written and verbal.

Desirable

  • Good IT skills.
  • Working knowledge of Safeguarding policy and procedure.
  • This post requires the post holder to undertake an enhanced, child workforce (with barred list check) criminal record check via the Disclosure and Barring Service

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse on part 1 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register.
  • Experience of working in a related field with children and young people with complex needs.
  • Evidence of health promotion work, including sexual health, relationships, education, emotional wellbeing.

Desirable

  • Understanding of child and adolescent development, transitions, families and
  • wider systems.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with children, young people and families
  • Ability to work effectively within a team but able to work on own initiative whilst recognising role boundaries.
