York Council is offering an exciting opportunity to join our developing 0-19
Healthy Child Service as a specialist Community Public Health Nurse - Student
Health Visitor/School Nurse.
We are
looking for compassionate, accountable individuals motivated to meet the
demands of the SCPHN course through attendance at Hull University.
You will
be a current NMC Registered Nurse (Adult, Child, Learning Disabilities, Mental
Health) or Midwife.
Main duties of the job
You will undertake Specialist Community Public
Health Practitioner training, incorporating theoretical and practical elements
in order to develop the knowledge and skills required to practice safely and
effectively as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse Health Visitor/
School Nurse.
You will be responsible for the efficient delivery
of a universal core service, targeted interventions and public health
interventions to children, young people and their families.
You will be responsible for the planning and
delivery of the Healthy Child Programme, under the leadership of the Healthy
Child Service Team Manager, to ensure the best health outcomes for children,
young people and families across the City of York are achieved.

Job responsibilities
The Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) Student, will contribute to the delivery of the 0-19 Healthy Child Service, under the leadership of the Healthy Child Service Manager, working collaboratively and with partner agencies to deliver a holistic service built around the universal offer. The universal offer is based on proven Public Health evidence and the local Joint Strategic Needs Assessment. The assessment of needs for targeted interventions will contribute to the identification and assessment of children, young people and their families health needs.
The post holder will undertake Specialist Community Public Health Practitioner training, incorporating theoretical and practical elements in order to develop the knowledge and skills required to practice safely and effectively as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse Health Visitor/ School Nurse.
The post holder will be responsible for the efficient delivery of a universal core service, targeted interventions and public health interventions to children, young people and their families. This will be achieved through utilisation of the most appropriate members of the public health workforce and delivered in accordance with the local delivery model.
The post holder will be responsible for the planning and delivery of the Healthy Child Programme, under the leadership of the Healthy Child Service Manager, to ensure the best health outcomes for children, young people and families across the City of York are achieved.
The unique nature of this service means that the post holder will ensure there are robust and positive links into the NHS and will work closely with GPs, Paediatricians, specialist services amongst others.

Essential
- Registered Nurse or Midwife on part 1 or 2 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register.
Experience

- Ability to manage a caseload.
- Evidence of continuous professional development.
- Willing to undertake further training as required.
- Experience of clinical audit.
- Proficient in use of IT.
- Chairing, negotiating and influencing skills.
- Ability to produce clear written reports and deliver effectively to a wide audience.
- Ability to manage changing priorities and have a positive approach to change.
- Ability to work effectively within a team but also independently.
- Ability to confidently challenge practice, support colleagues and offer practical and safe solutions.
- Knowledge and understanding of Information Governance, professional record keeping requirements, confidentiality and consent.
- Can demonstrate up to date knowledge, skills and competencies within the multi-agency safeguarding arena.
- Demonstrable experience of working with children, young people and families.
- Self-motivated, proactive and innovative.
- Strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Must have a current, valid driving license and access to own vehicle for business purposes.
