Job responsibilities
The post holder will primarily be responsible for:
- Focusing on tobacco control initiatives aimed at reducing smoking prevalence in Doncaster;
- Coordinating the work of the Public Health Team in Tobacco Control - supporting and making connections with multi-agencies;
- Supporting and coordinating the work of partner agencies and the Doncaster Tobacco Control Alliance in achieving the strategy and levels of performance set out by the Alliance;
- Managing the implementation of the Tobacco Control Strategy for Doncaster;
- Supporting improvements in leadership and partnership working in pursuit of the Tobacco Control Strategy;
- Working with the communication team in the Council to coordinate a communication approach across the Tobacco Control Alliance initially tested through the smoke-free spaces work and potentially the mass media work to drive up the number of people who quit smoking.
- Support the commissioning of Stop Smoking Service.
Essential skills, knowledge and experience required to fulfil the role include, but are not limited to:
- Hold a health-related qualification/or equivalent experience in a relevant area and specialist knowledge of public health.
- A desire to learn and develop new skills and willingness to undertake any additional training required in order to fully deliver the role.
- Evidence of relevant work experience within the field of public health, application of public health methods and evidence-based theory, and the ability to utilise tools including data analysis and interpretation.
- Experience of managing large scale, multi-disciplinary projects across large complex organisations e.g. NHS/Local Authority.
- Knowledge of national and local public health and wellbeing priorities in relation to the theme area.
- Knowledge and understanding of the theory of health improvement and evidence of skills to apply knowledge within professional practice.
- Able to work with and relate to a range of partners from diverse agencies and backgrounds.
- A knowledge of complex health care systems is essential and it would be advantageous for the person to have experience of partnership working and commissioning. Candidates must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
