This role has a starting salary of £40,296 per annum, based on a 36 hour working week. We are excited to be hiring a new Public Health Development Worker to join our fantastic Cardiovascular Disease and Cancer Prevention team, which is part of the larger Public Health and Communities Team within Surrey County Council. The team is based at Woodhatch Place, Reigate and we work in a hybrid model - working either from a SCC base, out in the community or from home. This is a fixed term contract/ secondment opportunity, initially until 31st March 2026. Rewards and Benefits

About the Team The Public Health and Communities Team sits within the Adults, Wellbeing and Health Partnerships Directorate and contributes towards the Health and Wellbeing Strategy, to reduce health inequalities so no-one is left behind. The Public Health team is made up of a variety of different roles, working collectively to reduce heath inequalities and improve the health of Surrey's population. The work offers the opportunity for professional development, engagement across a wide partnership and the potential to contribute towards better outcomes for our service users. Working in the cardiovascular disease and cancer prevention field now is particularly interesting due to a national smoke free generation programme and local partnership collaboration. About the Role The Government's ambitious proposal for a smoke free generation aims to significantly reduce smoking rates by providing additional funding to local authorities. We have a fantastic new opportunity for a Public Health Development Officer (Tobacco Control) to work closely with and support the Public Health Programme Lead to deliver against Surrey's smoke free ambitions. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic team member, with a public health background, project management skills and knowledge of the tobacco control agenda. You will have a passion for improving the health of our population with a focus in reducing inequalities. Working within this team you will be required to ensure services and interventions are based on an understanding of needs, that they address health inequalities and are evidenced based. You will also support the management of a budget over £1m. You will work with stakeholders and partners locally and across the Integrated Care System to address nicotine addiction, including local interventions and the new Government Stopping the Start agenda. As a Public Health Development Worker, you will:

Coordinate projects, provide support, present reports for different audiences, and monitor progress against outcomes.

Have excellent written and verbal communication skills to work efficiently and effectively across organisational boundaries and with internal partners to promote awareness of stop smoking support available and minimise health inequalities across Surrey.

Be able to assess and analyse local & national data, policy guidelines to make recommendations for local service improvements from an evidence based perspective.

Take a lead on developing smoking and tobacco projects around children and young people.

Shortlisting Criteria To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following:

A first degree in health, social sciences or a related subject.

Experience of working in a Public Health environment and a knowledge of tobacco control.

Strong interpersonal, influencing and negotiation skills and the ability to engage confidently with all stakeholders

Proven ability to analyse, interpret and present data in a variety of forms and to a variety of audiences.

Ability to coordinate and/or manage a range of projects through to completion.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
