Job description

Job responsibilities

These roles have salaries ranging from £39,355 - £42,053 per annum (pro rata for part time hours), based on a 36 hour working week. "I have worked for Surrey County Council for the last 19 years. I started as a promoting independence assistant and was then was supported by Surrey to train to be an Occupational Therapist. I am now currently a Senior OT in the Elmbridge Locality Team and love my job with a passion. I feel very much like I'm a part of a supportive family where we all work hard for the best outcomes for Surrey residents. I feel proud to work for Surrey" - Clare Mountfield, Senior Occupational Therapist We are excited to be hiring one full time and one part time Occupational Therapist to join our fantastic Elmbridge locality team. The team is based in Esher, however moving to Dakota, 11 De Havilland Drive, Weybridge, Surrey, KT13 0YP in September. We are a wonderfully supportive and cohesive team and pride ourselves in recognising and nurturing talented staff, delivering consistently high level of occupational therapy intervention to the community who benefit from the rich variety of interventions available via social care. We value opportunities for continuing professional development highly and encourage staff to engage in learning and development opportunities whenever possible. We advocate for autonomous case load management which grants you flexibility around how you structure your day. No day is the same, and no day is ever boring. What we can offer you;

  • Generous annual leave allowance - 26 days (rising to 28 after 2 years and 30 after 5 years of continuous local government service) - with the opportunity to buy up to 10 days additional annual leave
  • Agile working opportunities - your work/life balance is important to us!
  • Training and Development - Superb opportunities for development including a Readiness Programme, Preceptorship, Structured Induction Programme
  • A supportive, 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme
  • Car lease scheme and many more discounted life-style benefits
  • Access to regular supervision to ensure that you are supported with day to day operational aspects of the role and your wellbeing
  • About the role As an Occupational Therapist within the Elmbridge Locality Team you will have a shared responsibility for the screening and progressing of new referrals to the team via our duty function, organised on a rota basis. We emphasise the benefit of strength-based forms of support that discourage long term dependency on services, encouraging independence where possible. You will also be expected to independently manage a case load of adults in need of support and their carers, offering assessment to identify needs whilst establishing eligibility for social care services as per the Care Act 2014. Additionally, you will be expected to analyse information and set interventions for the people you assess to help them meet goals they have identified. We advocate for a person-centred approach in all the work we do. We regularly utilise equipment provision and adaptation to enable people to do the things that are most important to them. We also engage in risk assessment and work to safeguard individuals to ensure those we work with are safe and cared for appropriately. However, positive risk taking is integral to the work of the occupational therapy team and we promote this when the reward outweighs the potential risk. In your application, we would love to hear about your;
  • Previous experience in similar roles
  • Personal characteristics that make you well suited to a role in adult social care
  • Goals and ambitions and areas you would like to develop
  • Interests (both personal and professional) that you feel demonstrate transferable skills you possess
  • Understanding of the world of occupational therapy and adult social care. Its ok to not know it all, but we appreciate time taken to research and recognise development needs
