Main duties of the job

We are seeking a dynamic Public Health Principal to lead a well establish team focusing primarily on the Domestic Abuse portfolio.

This role sits within the Live Well Improve & Enable team (which covers domestic abuse and alcohol & drugs, with linked partnerships) and has specific responsibilities for providing leadership to the Domestic Abuse portfolio of work. The post holder has a vital role in ensuring the council meets the duties under the Domestic Abuse Act 2021, collaborating with the Oxfordshire Domestic Abuse Strategic Board and other related partnership groups, and ensuring effective use of the associated duty funding to meet the needs of the Oxfordshire population. You will be responsible for the commissioning and monitoring of domestic abuse services, ensuring that they effectively target vulnerable groups to reduce local health inequalities. You will also have responsibility for interpreting national policy and guidance, ensuring it is reflected at a local level in the Oxfordshire strategy and commissioned services. You will have experience of partnership working across the whole system to achieve a joined-up approach to reducing health inequalities. This post leads a small team of three people. Previous experience of domestic abuse would be advantageous but is not essential.

To deliver this vision, we are looking for a dynamic public health professional to take up an exciting role in our public health team as a Public Health Principal. This role will lead on a defined portfolio of work ensuring it delivers improved health outcomes for Oxfordshire residents. Due to the senior nature of this post, leadership across the whole spectrum of public health functions for which Local Authorities have responsibility will also be required, depending on the priorities of the Directorate and skills within the wider team.
