Job summary

Swindon Borough Council is seeking to recruit a full time substantive Public Health Consultant to support in the delivery of Swindons public health priorities & the Covid-19 Local Outbreak Management Plan.

Our highly successful public health team works to deliver against the Boroughs public health priorities to protect and improve health, tackle health inequalities & protecting the most vulnerable.

We are looking for a forward-thinking Public Health Consultant, who has a proven track record working across all domains of public health. An established leader with drive & highly developed public health skills to help shape decisions over a range of public health functions, operating and influencing across the system to achieve a significant impact for improving health and wellbeing of the Swindon population.

Main duties of the job

As members of the senior management team, you will have help to lead on the response and recovery from Covid-19 and support the Director of Public Health in realising the ambition to ensure that public health agendas and priorities are driven forward.

You will work in partnership with senior managers from across the Council, with the Clinical Commissioning Group and our acute trust, the voluntary sector as well as other partner agencies to improve health outcomes and make a positive difference to the lives of people in Swindon. If you are a progressive leader in public health who is keen to work with a passionate public health team, we would very much like to hear from you.

This role is currently home-based but candidates should have the ability to be able to travel to and around Swindon as part of the role. Swindon Borough Council terms and conditions apply to this role.

The post holder will fulfill a generalist Public Health Consultant role and should be able to demonstrate competency in at least one of the following: Health Protection, Health Improvement, Health Intelligence, and / or Healthcare Public Health.

As a public health professional the post holder will operate as a change agent, prevention-oriented, needs oriented, flexible in approach and influential across the council and other agencies to improve the health and wellbeing of Swindon residents.

Support the Director of Public Health in achieving core public health objectives namely protecting and improving health and reducing health inequalities; and contributing to the quality of local health and social care services.

  • Inclusion in the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)
  • If included in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List in a specialty other than public health medicine/dental public health, candidates must have equivalent training and/or appropriate experience of public health practice
