Job summary
Swindon Borough Council is seeking to
recruit a 3 days, substantive Public Health Consultant to support in the
delivery of Swindons public health priorities & Covid-19 Local Outbreak
Management Plan.
Our vision is to create healthier, stronger
& more resilient communities & to ensure people in Swindon stay safe
from Covid-19 through prevention & rapid management of outbreaks. Our
highly successful team works to deliver against the Boroughs public health
priorities as well as responding & recovering from Covid-19, reducing
health inequalities and protecting the most vulnerable.
We are looking for a forward-thinking Public
Health Consultant, who has a proven track record working across all domains of
public health. An established leader with drive & highly developed public
health skills to help shape decisions over a range of public health functions,
operating & influencing across the system to achieve a significant impact for
improving health & wellbeing of the Swindon population.
Main duties of the job
As members of the senior management team
you will have help to lead on the response and recovery from Covid-19 and support
the Director of Public Health in realising the ambition to ensure that public
health agendas and priorities are driven forward.
You will work in partnership with senior
managers from across the Council, with the Clinical
Commissioning Group and our acute trust,
the voluntary sector as well as other partner agencies to improve health
outcomes and make a positive difference to the lives of people in Swindon. If

This role is home-based working but with a
requirement to be able to travel to Swindon Borough Council Offices.

Essential
- Inclusion in the GMC Full and Specialist Register with a license to practice/GDC Specialist List (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview) or
- Inclusion in the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)
- If included in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List in a specialty other than public health medicine/dental public health, candidates must have equivalent training and/or appropriate experience of public health practice
- Public health specialty registrar applicants who are not yet on the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List in dental public health/UKPHR must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they are within 6 months of gaining entry at the date of interview; all other applicants must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they have applied for inclusion in the GMC/GDC/UKPHR specialist registers [see shortlisting notes below for additional guidance]
- If an applicant is UK trained in Public Health, they must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview
- If an applicant is non-UK trained, they will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT [see shortlisting notes below for additional guidance]
- Applicants must meet minimum CPD requirements (i.e. be up to date) in accordance with Faculty of Public Health requirements or other recognised body
- MFPH by examination, by exemption or by assessment
- Masters in Public Health or equivalent
