Suffolk County Council is looking for qualified Occupational Therapists (3 posts) to join our Disabled Children and Young Peoples team, working from either Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds or Lowestoft.

Main duties of the job

The aim of your role is to maximise quality of life and increase independence for the children and young person we support. As well as to enhance safety for the children and young people by providing specialist equipment and adaptations and supporting parents and carers in their caring roles.

Your role and responsibilities

You will provide high quality occupational therapy assessments of need within the local authorities statutory responsibility.

These assessments will take place in the home environment for children and young people with complex disabilities. Assessments are carried out to identify difficulties and solutions are explored to overcome them through advice and information; the provision of equipment; minor / major adaptations and liaison with professionals from health and education.

You will work closely with wider organisations such as Housing organisations and Community Equipment Services.

You will need:

  • experience of working with disabled children preferably within a Social Care setting (desirable, newly qualified OTs will be considered)
  • to be motivated and adaptable
  • to be able to work independently and autonomously as well as part of a team.
  • organisational skills as you will be responsible for managing your own workload
  • excellent communication skills to liaise with families, children, young people and other professionals

The Children and Young Peoples Occupational Therapy Team are a small, committed, and supportive team of Occupational Therapy Managers, Occupational Therapists and an Occupational Therapy Assistant.

We work alongside Social Workers, Family Support Workers and Business Support colleagues within the Disabled Children and Young Peoples Team.

The team provides both social care and occupational therapy support to children, young people with complex disability and their families / carers.

You will:

  • receive regular supervision from your Occupational Therapy Managers and peer support from your team colleagues.
  • be able to access regular training to support your development in your role.
