Public health sits at the heart of Barnsley Council. As a Head of Public Health (CPH), you can
expect to provide advice on all health matters to elected members, employees
and stakeholders. As someone who can build

Maintaining and developing specialist Public Health skills
across the domains is important to us and therefore you will be stimulated by a
portfolio which will span the domains of Public Health and will stretch and
develop your Public Health and systems leadership. Its exact scope will develop over time but,
from the outset, you will take a strategic, public health lead for mental
health, learning disabilities and autism, influencing and directing resources
across health and care to deliver Place aims and ambitions. You will be an active contributor at a Place
and System level driving programmes of work which address prevention, early
help and the wider determinants of health.
The role requires a high level of intellectual rigour, political
awareness, negotiation and motivation skills and flexibility in order to deal
with complex public health issues, advise and make recommendations. Tact and
diplomacy are also essential as is the ability to understand, work with and
influence others.
Main duties of the job
You will be included in the UK Public Health Register
(UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists or you will be included
in the GMC Full and
Specialist Register with a license to practice/GDC Specialist List at the point
of application. (Public health specialty registrar
applicants who are not yet on the GMC Specialist Register, UKPHR register
or GDC Specialist List in dental public health must provide verifiable
signed documentary evidence that they are within 6 months of gaining entry
to a register at the date of interview).
You will be able to evidence CPD requirements in accordance
with Faculty of Public Health requirements.
