Job summary
he Public Health and Social Research Unit (PHSRU) is a multi-disciplinary team of analysts and researchers. This is an exciting time for the team as they have two new opportunities, currently seeking Public Health Analysts to join them on their journey. Research, evaluation, consultation, and information play an important part in the development and continuous improvement of policy, service planning and delivery in WSCC and partner organisations.
As a Public Health Analyst, you will support the Principal Public Health Analysts who work across areas including, but not limited to, health protection (screening, immunisation, and sexual health), health improvement (healthy lifestyles services such as Smoking Cessation and NHS Health Checks), children and young people, older adults (including frailty and multimorbidity), and healthcare public health (including NHS hospital discharge and disease prevalence).
The role will work in partnership with a range of services, partners and experts within WSCC and other organisations (including NHS organisations) to understand data and information to help decision making.
You will support across the varied portfolios of the public health consultants, adapting to national and local priorities. As a team we are keen to facilitate sharing knowledge, and to support learning through formal and informal continuous professional development.
Main duties of the job
You will need to be flexible, adaptable and comfortable working in partnership with a range of services, partners and experts by experience, and will need good communication skills to develop good relationships with staff in organisations across the health and social care system.
Some knowledge of data available in the public domain and experience of working with record level datasets (such as NHS Englands Hospital Episode Statistics) would be desirable.
In addition, you will need:
- Excellent analytical and research skills, and the ability to draft reports and briefings.
- To be highly organised and able to work to deadlines.
- The ability to co-ordinate and analyse data from a variety of sources.
- The ability to develop good working relationships with a range of partners, both within the council and externally, such as the District and Borough councils, the police, and treatment providers.
- The ability to work well under pressure.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to present data and findings to a range of audiences.
- To be able to work with sensitive and confidential data and promote and maintain high standards of data governance.
