Job description

Job responsibilities

This is a very hands-on, technical role. This role works closely with the product owners and project managers on all projects which require an ICT design so that it becomes a standard product for use. This role is for a technical architect with detailed and expert knowledge in one of 3 specific ICT areas to be able to provide solutions. These are the go-to posts within ICT for all new business around these 3 key product groups which include: Productivity this includes all of the M365 product suite including SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, Forms, Yammer, Delve and traditional office apps such as Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. This also includes our device products that we provide employees including traditional laptops, tablets, smartphones, BYOD, Windows and the management of those products (e.g. Intune, Autopilot). These products are critical to employees ability to collaborate & innovate, and moving forwards will include all Voice and Message communication from citizens to the Council. Customer Experience this includes all systems that the councils citizens use to interact digitally with the Council including D365 (Dynamics), Arcus, transactional components of the Councils website (hosted by GOSS) and any associated integrations with back office line of business systems. These apps are critical to the delivery of the organisations digital strategy Council Ecosystem this comprises the systems that are not visible to the public but critical to the councils operations such as Liquid Logic used by all of social care, Tascomi used by Public Protection and QL Housing (not exhaustive list). A focus in this area will be integration and rationalisation of the disparate product set, and ensuring appropriate mobile offerings are available for staff. Integrating and collaborating with our customer experience and our staff productivity areas. The role has a critical place on council projects and provide expert ICT advice, challenge assumptions and expectations and have a knowledge of cost of supporting the implementation of a project. Impact of the decisions they make could be the difference between a successful project outcome to a costly, reputational failure. Specific duties and responsibilities include: The role holder will have responsibility for providing solutions architecture services (Technical Designs, Diagrams, Technical Assessments, system maps, etc), management of key technologies within the product set. They are responsible for maintaining their expert level of knowledge and keeping up-to-date with the changes in the industry so that the Council can introduce new technologies and innovative solutions. As the councils technical experts they will also share their knowledge with the other engineers within ICT and to other technical teams i.e. partner organisations. The Technical Architect is responsible for ensuring that their designs are correctly defined, built and transitioned into support including full technical documentation. Requiring them to lead on council wide projects and be responsible for overall delivery, providing senior technical expertise within the product team. They will deputise for the product owner and will play an active part in sprint planning, retrospectives, daily stand ups, project/programme boards, and workshops

Qualifications

Essential

  • The Technical Architect is expected to have a wide and diverse knowledge across IT specialisms.
  • Educated to Degree level in their chosen field of expertise i.e. BSc in Computing 2:2 or above or have proven work experience in the chosen discipline over a long period of time coupled with professional qualifications
  • The Technical Architect will be expected to hold or be studying for, professional qualifications relevant to the product set
  • Experience of enterprise architecture and technical design concepts, such that they are able to recommend suitable solutions based on solid analysis and knowledge of the product set
  • Experience at writing designs, position papers and business cases
  • Experience in building solutions utilizing the relevant product set (M365, D365, Council EcoSystem)

Desirable

  • Persuasive, encouraging and motivating
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience of managing multiple suppliers to deliver projects.
  • ITIL 3 Foundation qualification and ideally holding one or more ITIL Practitioner subjects i.e. Service Design, Service Transition etc
