North Tyneside has ambitious plans for the people and places across the borough. We are seeking an inspiring and visionary Director of Public Health who is passionate about making North Tyneside a great place to live, work and visit, where people are happy, healthy and able to thrive.

This is an exciting time to join us as Director of Public Health, and we are looking for someone who will be at the forefront of leading, developing and maintaining a clear strategic vision with the Elected Mayor, Cabinet and Members.

The Role:

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the Director of Public Health will be at the forefront of our ambitious plans to enhance the quality of life for the people of North Tyneside. You will lead a dedicated team of public health professionals, collaborate with key stakeholders, and develop innovative strategies to tackle public health challenges.

Main duties of the job

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director of Public Health will:

  • Lead with Vision:The ability to empower, motivate and develop colleagues whilst continuing to develop our positive and inclusive organisational culture.
  • Legislative Practice:Analyse data and conduct research to develop and implement forward-thinking public health policies, procedures and programs.
  • Statutory Reporting: Responsible for the creation of the independent annual report, making evidence-based and innovative recommendations to improve health and reduce inequalities across the borough.
  • Collaborate and Advocate: Establish and sustain positive relationships that generate confidence; collaborative working with a wide range of diverse stakeholders and advocate for improvements to promote and protect the health of residents in North Tyneside.
  • Proactively Source Funding: Advocate for public health funding and resources to drive our initiatives whilst being good value for money.
  • Safeguarding: North Tyneside Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and adults at risk of harm.
