North Tyneside Council is seeking to recruit an Infant
Feeding Public Health Assistant to work within the 0-19 Childrens Public
Health Service. The service is based in four localities in integrated teams
across the borough.
The service was reaccredited in March 2023 with the UNICEF Baby Friendly Gold
Award and is supported by a Specialist Infant Feeding Team.
A recent CQC inspection report, where the service was rated good with
outstanding leadership, stated 'All those responsible for delivering care
were committed to working collaboratively as a team to benefit children, young
people, and their families. They supported each other to provide good care and
communicated effectively with other agencies.

Main duties of the job

practices and experience of working with children and families?
The post holder
will support the infant feeding specialist (IFS) and assist with a range of
tasks including administrative work, breast pump loans, supporting families in
their homes, delivering group sessions, and supporting the IFS with staff
training.
The essential requirements of the post are GCSE Maths and English or
equivalent; proven ability to work as part of a team; ability to plan and organise
own workload; experience of working with children and families; knowledge of
basic infant feeding practices; experience of delivering group sessions;
ability to communicate effectively with local families in diverse communities;
to meet the travel requirements of the post.
About us
The 0-19
CPHS consists of five teams of Health Visitors, Public Health School Nurses,
other professionally qualified nurses and midwives and a range of frontline
workers.
Staff are provided with support and supervision from the Nurse Manager
throughout their probationary period and beyond and have access to an
identified supervisor.
Support and supervision will be provided to assist the postholder to carry
out their duties and maintain professional development.

The 0-19 Childrens Public Health Service Assistant
for infant feeding is a member of the 0-19 childrens public health service and
will be based with one of the four locality teams working across the borough
of North Tyneside, promoting, and supporting best practice in all aspects of
infant feeding.
To assist the Infant Feeding Specialist (IFS) and
wider 0-19 team in delivering a range of services to improve health outcomes
for children and families by supporting, inspiring, and encouraging families to
achieve their feeding goals. This includes the support and promotion of breast
feeding across the borough working in line with service policy and the UNICEF
Baby Friendly Initiative standards.
To
assist with a range of tasks including administrative work, breast pump loans,
supporting families in their homes and supporting the IFS with staff
training.

promote healthy lifestyles for families in North Tyneside at health events, in
schools and community venues.
