Job summary

Are you passionate about using data to improve public health and wellbeing? We are looking for a dedicated professional to join our team as an Advanced Public Health Strategic Intelligence Analyst.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Knowledge and Intelligence Team (KIT) within the Wellbeing & Public Health Service. Your role will involve developing our evidence base, leading on the delivery of analytical projects on topics across the health and wellbeing space as well as taking an active role in helping shape the tools, methods, and practices used to undertake analysis in order to support partners working to improve residents health and wellbeing.

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with colleagues from the local authority, NHS, voluntary sector, and other agencies.
  • Provide vital information, analysis, and visualisations to support evidence-based decision making.
  • Interpret health data to transform raw data into actionable insights.
  • Support evidence-based needs assessments and influence decision-making processes.
  • Test hypotheses using data and present findings in a clear, accessible manner.
  • Lead the production, development, and promotion of statistical/information products.
  • Manage the storage, updating, and routine analysis of public health data sets.
  • Oversee the implementation of supporting intelligence functions of Governance, Quality & Performance, and Skills Development & Training.
  • Management duties of intelligence team, supervise and train colleagues or students as required.

  • Strong numerical skills and statistical proficiency.
  • A deep understanding of how health data drives transformative change.
  • The ability to bring data to life and make a positive impact on public health.
  • Experience in analysing and interpreting health, healthcare, or demographic data.
  • Proficiency in using statistical software packages (e.g., SQL, Excel, Access).
  • Knowledge of current public health policy and data security/confidentiality issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience in presenting information in charts, tables, and data visualisations.

Desirable

  • Experience of working with information in the NHS or similar public sector organisation is desirable.
