Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an experience Occupational Therapist to join the Disabled Children and Therapy Service's (DCTS) OT team within Cornwall Council. The post is 19 hours and will be based in the West of the county working alongside an existing part time team lead. Currently there is an office base at Camborne but this is to be reviewed.

Main duties of the job

The role involves holding a small caseload of children. These children will be those who have the most complex needs and therefore require your experienced input. The team lead role also involves the management and supervision of the OTs based in the West as well as allocating of work and managing the waiting list. There is one band 6 OT and one band 5 OT in this area.

Job responsibilities

The DCTS OT team which is made up 12 OTs including an OT Service Manger is also part of the wider DCTS team which is made up of Social Worker, Support Workers, SCIP workers, Portage workers and short break services.

The DCTS OTs will meet and assess children from the age of 0-18. The role involves working as part of a wide multi-disciplinary team that could be made up of colleagues from health, social care, education, housing as well as private sector contractors and equipment providers. A large part of the role involves planning adaptations to children's physical environments at home and in education settings, working alongside surveyors and key workers. The role also involves assessing for and ordering equipment to meet children's needs and allow them to complete activities of daily living either independently or with support.
