Job summary
You will work within the Epidemiology team within Public Health Evidence & Intelligence, Hertfordshire County Council. We provide support to health and care services within Hertfordshire on topics such as epidemiology, modelling, quantitative research, and the appropriate use of data. With the support of Senior Epidemiologists, you will support decision making across the health and care system in Hertfordshire, with projects ranging from providing statistics and insights about health and wellbeing, making recommendations for how services can be transformed to better meet residents needs, and using data science methods to develop ways to better analyse and visualise data.
Main duties of the job
We have invested in providing the right tools to enable you to reach your potential, including a data science environment supporting R and Python, using GitLab for source control. This allows us to automate the routine and instead spend our time focusing on deriving insights from data based on advanced analytical methods to support decision makers.
We support flexible working and typically work remotely, though some travel may be required at times.
We use the R statistical programming language for much of our work, so some familiarity with R or another programming language will be a benefit, but this is not essential as we can provide training. The technical nature of role means you will need an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a numerate discipline such as public health, statistics, data science, social sciences, economics, geography or similar, or have at least a years experience working in this space. A pre-interview assessment will form part of the selection process, which will ideally be done in R.
