Main duties of the job

As a General Assistant you'll support the team with the day to day activities of the home. This will include kitchen, domestic and laundry duties. You'll also be involved in caring responsibilities, interacting with our residents and assisting them with their food and drink.

Job responsibilities

Day to day tasks:

  • Cleaning residents bedrooms, communal areas, toilets, bathrooms, sluices and sundry offices.
  • Carrying out laundry duties.
  • Helping out at meal times (i.e., serving or assisting residents, clearing/ resetting tables, use of dishwasher etc).
  • Accompanying residents, as an escort, to appointments (i.e. hospital, doctors, opticians etc).
  • Carrying out other appropriate activities for the role, to support the delivery of our service.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Developing and maintaining positive working relationships with other professionals, relatives and residents.
  • Enhancing and respecting the quality of life of our residents and their relatives.
  • Maintaining consistently high quality standards.
  • Problem-solving and dealing effectively with issues. Reporting Health and safety issues or repairs appropriately.
  • Correct use of protective clothing.
  • Maintaining and storing equipment appropriately.
  • Respecting and empathising with older people with sensory disabilities, to enhance their quality of life and raise self-esteem.
  • Working effectively and flexibly as part of a team to cover contract cleaners and other General Assistants in their absence, (i.e. sickness, annual leave etc).
