Job summary

Joining us as a Residential Service Officer (Support Worker), you'll support our clients with their daily needs, including personal care, helping them to learn and develop the essential life skills needed to achieve a fulfilling, independent and safe life outside of the service. Youll assist them to engage in meaningful activities, develop communication resources and expand their skills to manage their own home.

Main duties of the job

Supported by more experienced colleagues, youll assess an individuals needs and provide them with support and guidance to maximise their wellbeing. Using imaginative and innovative ways, along with your effective relationship management and negotiation skills, youll collaborate with our clients, their families, providers and other health care professionals.

Job responsibilities

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Promoting and participating in the provision of physical and emotional care of our clients.
  • Participating in the assessment of the needs of our clients in conjunction with colleagues and other professionals.
  • With colleagues, providing a warm accepting environment within which the emotional, social and educational, cultural and spiritual needs of individual residents can be met.
  • Organising, encouraging and sharing in recreational and leisure activities that meet the needs and wishes of the clients and adhere to county policy and guidelines.
  • Contributing to the development of individual care and placement plans for residents in conjunction with colleagues and other professionals.
  • Observing, assessing and monitoring Service Users health, development and emotional well-being and interpreting verbal and non-verbal signs, initiating appropriate action as necessary.
  • Ensuring a safe and comfortable environment by actively promoting and participating in the provision of high standards of physical care, hygiene and safety for all clients.
  • Communication and record keeping by maintaining case records and writing reports in accordance with the client access and data recording systems.
  • Keeping accurate records of petty cash spending within agreed limits and support individuals to manage their finances in accordance with FSU financial procedures.
  • You own personal and professional development by undertaking in NVQ Training and GSCC registration as required.

  • Have an understanding of the importance of high standards within residential care.
  • Understand how personal actions and attitudes impact on others.
  • Willingness to undertake an NVQ (level 2 or 3) in a care related subject.
  • Have an understanding of key legislation relevant to the client group.
  • Good general communication skills.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy.
  • Commitment to core values. Promote equal opportunities and diversity.
  • Able to assess risks, identify control measures and take necessary steps to ensure a safe environment for service users and colleagues.
  • Have the necessary skills and experience to engage with the client group and communicate effectively with people who may have special communication needs.
