Job summary
You would be joining the SEMH group, which is one seven
multiagency specialism groups: Language Disorder, Autism Spectrum, Learning
Difficulties, Complex Communication and Social, Emotional and Mental Health,
specialist teaching and occupational therapy. Each of the Specialism
Groups is led by a Lead Professional who would support you to develop within
your role. Developing Specialist Therapists also join the Developing Therapists
Group where they meet regularly with Developing Therapists and Newly Qualified
Therapists. Expertise is shared across the team and specialist CPD is provided
where required.
The C&I
team sits within the Specialist Teacher Advisory Service (STAS) which also
includes the Physical Disabilities and Assistive Technology Team (PD/AT) and
the Sensory Team Vision and Hearing Impairment (VI & HI). The STAS
Service is part of Hampshires local SEND offer, working alongside other teams
such as Educational Psychology, HIAS, Primary Behaviour Service, Youth
Offending Team, virtual schools (for looked after children) and the SEN
Service.
We have a
close working partnership with the NHS Therapy Service (SaLT, OT and Physio)
and encourage collaborative working and cross-service development.
Main duties of the job
Developing Specialist Therapist:
Hold your own caseload and engage in clinical decision making relating to assessment and intervention planning. May include specialist cases where you will have specified support.
Provide essential therapy, interventions, and class-based support using evidence- based practice to ensure positive functional outcomes are achieved for children and young people.
Utilise a range of adult learning theories to train, coach and upskill school-based staff and parents.
Specialist Therapist:
Manage a specialist caseload.
Provide school staff with strategies and approaches to support young people within your specialist caseload.
Work within special schools or resource provisions includes support with universal provision including curriculum and environmental developments.
Provide specialist information and knowledge to colleagues.
Manage conflicting views and needs and negotiate a shared understanding to enable effective planning and review.
Carry out and advise on assessments for Education, Health and Care Plans and appeals, working closely with Special Educational Needs (SEN) colleagues.
Attend SEN and Disability Tribunals as required (additional training and support would be provided).
Lead and manage projects relating to your specialist area.
Support professional development, inc. the provision of coaching, mentoring, supervision and management of the team.
