Job summary

Derbyshire County Council has recently undertaken a detailed review of its Occupational Therapy services and are implementing a new countywide structure in January 2024. The review brings Occupational Therapy to the forefront of reablement services whilst strengthening our core Occupational Therapy activity, with a centralised service delivery model.

We are increasing our commitment to providing high quality professional leadership therefore are seeking to recruit an Occupational Therapy Senior Practitioner to join us in our Amber Valley/Erewash/South Derbyshire team.

Working in partnership with stakeholders including Health, Housing, and others both within and across organisations is a key element of this role.

The successful candidate will have a BSc in Occupational Therapy or equivalent and substantial proven experience as a senior practicing Occupational Therapist.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will support professional development and effective delivery of the teams who will provide our core Occupational Therapy services. The focus of the service is working with people with longer term needs, requiring interventions to support them to live at home safely, including the provision of housing adaptations.

You will work with the Occupational Therapy Service Manager and another Senior OT Practitioner in your locality to maintain high quality professional practice, alongside holding a small but complex case load. The role will also contribute towards the implementation of new service developments, ensuring teams have the necessary skills and training to deliver our services.

About us

The Senior Practitioners will support teams to embrace change as the service is embedded into its new structure and beyond. You will provide clinical supervision, focussing on reflective practice and professional standards as set out by The Royal College of Occupational Therapists and Health and Care Professions Council . The role will be key in mentoring and coaching colleagues, in particular, newly qualified Occupational Therapists and Apprentices whilst promoting the inclusion of Occupational Therapy students as potential future talent.

The role will promote the value of time-limited strength-based interventions to provide the best outcomes for people across Derbyshire and work closely with colleagues in the short term reablement service, offering professional oversight of the Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Social Care Practitioners where there are no Occupational Therapy registered Service Managers or Senior Practitioners.
