The Public Health Department in Derbyshire County Council is looking for a permanent Public Health Lead for Healthy Weight and Physical Activity and to be part of the Extended Leadership Team of Public Health.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the job will include:

  • Collaborative working for health.
  • Leadership and collaborative working with a range of strategic partners in the statutory and voluntary sector.
  • Developing health programmes and services to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequalities.
  • Promoting and protecting the population's health and wellbeing.
  • Working with and for communities.
  • Policy and strategy development and implementation.
  • Surveillance and assessment of the population's health and wellbeing.
  • Contributing to the delivery of the public health team's annual work plan.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The Public Health Department in Derbyshire County Council is looking for a permanent Public Health Lead for Healthy Weight and Physical Activity and be part of the Extended Leadership Team of Public Health.

The role involves working with specific target groups in a range of settings in partnership with local communities and partner organisations. This will include maintaining effective partnerships and networks with statutory, voluntary and private sector organisations at a local and regional level. The post-holder will provide specialist advice and support on the development of public health/health promotion programmes and support community health development approaches and initiatives to address health inequalities with a particular emphasis on healthy weight and physical activity. The post-holder will have a lead role in developing and commissioning projects and programmes within the public health directorate's strategy focusing on driving forward the delivery of the whole systems approach to healthy weight and increasing physical activity. In addition, the post-holder will play a key role in supporting and facilitating referrals into the Councils Live Life Better Derbyshire Service that supports local residents to improve their health and wellbeing.

Candidates should demonstrate experience at a senior level within the field of Public Health (or relevant profession), a commitment to partnership working, be passionate about reducing health inequalities and be able to demonstrate experience in improving the health and wellbeing of the local population.
