Job summary

Are you a committed and experienced Rehabilitation Officer / Vision Rehabilitation Specialist who is passionate about providing services to visually impaired people. If so, Enfield Council is the place for you.

We are seeking to recruit a qualified Vision Rehabilitation Specialist with a Diploma in Rehabilitation Studies, or equivalent, and an understanding of the needs of people with a visual impairment and dual sensory loss.

Main duties of the job

In this role, you will be responsible for providing specialist support and rehabilitation services to individuals with vision impairment, enabling them to maintain their independence and enhance their quality of life. Your key duties will include:

  • Completing assessments to identify individual needs and develop personalised support plans.
  • Delivering practical training and advice on daily living skills, mobility, low vision aids and assistive technology.
  • Working with other professionals within Adult Social Care, and with external agencies to ensure holistic care and support.
  • Advocating for service users and promoting their inclusion within the community.
  • Keeping accurate records and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and best practices.

  • Minimum of two years experience working with visually impaired and hearing impaired people.
  • Ability to communicate in BSL, Hands-on signing, Deafblind manual, Braille or willingness to undertake training.
  • Ability to implement a self directed approach in line with the personalisation agenda and the Safeguarding Adults policy for the Council
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing, including report writing, presenting, negotiating and the use of IT
  • Ability to plan and maximise use of resources
  • Ability to negotiate with customers how best to meet their needs
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary environment and have the Ability to work in partnership with carers and families and liaise with other staff agencies to ensure that the needs of the service user are met
  • Ability to work using own initiative as part of a team while managing workload efficiently, prioritising work and adopting a flexible approach to changing and competing demands
  • Ability to implement and monitor quality standards.

Desirable

  • Highly competent in the application of resource allocation systems
  • Ability to navigate and apply the Councils information technology systems to support Personalisation (Quickheart and Care First)
