Job summary

Haringey is a highly diverse borough with strong organisational values and a mission to provide leadership in response to Covid 19 and reduce the deprivation and health inequality which has been exacerbated by it.

The Director of Public Health is the system leader for improving the health and wellbeing of residents, reducing inequalities in health outcomes and protecting local communities from public health hazards (infectious diseases and environmental threats). As such, the Director of Public Health is a statutory chief officer of the local authority and the principal adviser on all health matters to elected members, officers and partners, with a leadership role spanning health improvement, health protection and healthcare public health.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for someone who shares our values and can demonstrate evidence of the technical capabilities for this role as validated by the Faculty of Public Health. Working collaboratively with corporate and partnership leaders is essential so we are looking for someone who is committed to working in a collaborative way, solving problems with our communities and residents and enabling a common focus on the wider factors that influence peoples health such as the environment, housing, schools, employment.

Applicants are required to be registered with GMC or GDC or a UK PHR public health specialist with significant experience in all areas of public health practice.

Deprivation levels overall are high, with high levels of inequality between the East and West of the borough. Inequalities which have been exacerbated by the COVID pandemic.

We are looking for a special person someone who can combine the professional and technical know how necessary to be the leader of Public Health for Haringey, with the ability to collaborate and work successfully across the strong local and regional health and care partnerships that exist here.
