Job summary
An exciting opportunity is available to support your leadership development in a key professional role within the Nursing and Clinical Governance Team. We are looking for a Registered Professional who can undertake the role as Quality and Infection Prevention and Control Professional Lead. You will have experience of working as a Band 7 clinician with ability to grow into the role and be supported to gain a qualification in Infection Prevention and Control (if required). The right person for the role must have credibility as a professional, be able to build strong relationships across all our clinical teams and lead on quality improvement, IPC and support the wider team with regulatory activity (CQC inspections, internal self-assessments). Whilst not essential, we would welcome applications from anyone who has experience of managing long term conditions- this is to support identified areas for improvement within the organisation. If not already held, it is essential to complete a recognised Infection Prevention and Control qualification within the first 12 months of being appointed. There is the need to travel to all our services to support our healthcare teams, verify IPC audits and manage any outbreaks that may happen. You must be able to write concise and accurate reports for the meetings within the Clinical Governance Framework and support the writing of reports for the Quality Assurance and Patient Safety Committee, and the Spectrum Board.
Main duties of the job
This job role is to provide a high degree of professional leadership across all of Spectrum's Clinical Operational Services. You will lead on Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) to support the Director of Nursing and Quality who holds the statutory role of Director of Infection Prevention and Control (DIPC). The Nursing and Clinical Governance Team lead on the following areas of assurance: patient engagement and experience, safeguarding, incident and risk management, quality improvement, research, clinical effectiveness, and medicines optimisation. There are some key areas of priority which the postholder will be the professional lead for, in addition to the IPC requirements: regulatory activity including co-ordinating and supporting operational teams through the CQC self-assessments, thematic review of incidents. The Quality and IPC Professional Lead is responsible for the management of outbreaks of infection, maintenance and support of the IPC Link Practitioners and having a relationship with the relevant agencies for IPC (UKHSA, HPT, NHSE etc). The post holder will be required to develop and co-produce competency frameworks, policies, and standard operating procedures in relation to learning from patient safety events, change in guidance or clinical audit results.
