Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Nurse/Professional for Safeguarding Adults to join the growing Safeguarding Team in Spectrum for a fixed period of 6 months. This role will provide invaluable development experience in safeguarding adults. Prison safeguarding in particular is one of the most interesting and challenging fields and the successful candidate will gain a vast amount of knowledge and skills which they would not encounter in any other setting. Spectrum is a forward thinking and dynamic Community Interest Company, providing NHS commissioned services within prison healthcare, drug and alcohol services, primary care and sexual health services across the North of England for over 10 years. The Safeguarding Team is undergoing an exciting period of development and is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, professional and dynamic individual to join us in leading the way in exemplary safeguarding practice. The Specialist Nurse/Professional will support colleagues in developing the Safeguarding Training Strategy to ensure that staff can access safeguarding training as required by their roles and that training is available to meet the learning needs of individual services when required.

Main duties of the job

The Specialist Nurse/Professional for Safeguarding will carry out a senior leadership role in the organisation. They will work as part of the corporate Safeguarding Team and will primarily support the Head of Safeguarding with the development of the safeguarding adult's agenda across all business units within the organisation. This will include representing Spectrum at local and regional safeguarding groups and forums, as well as enhancing the visibility of the Safeguarding Team within Spectrum. The post holder will form key relationships with stakeholders across the organisation to further enhance connections between the safeguarding team and staff in all sites. The primary function of this post will be to work alongside the in-post Specialist Nurse for Safeguarding across the adult safeguarding agenda where Spectrum delivers health care. This includes secure environments, community drug and alcohol services, primary care, and sexual health services. The Specialist Nurse/Professional will provide leadership and support for all staff, leading on some of the operational workstreams to ensure that Spectrum continues to meet its legal and statutory safeguarding duties. The Safeguarding Team mainly uses MS TEAMS to engage with staff across all business units. The postholder will also be required to attend sites when appropriate to develop relationships with staff, foster positive engagement and deliver training in person should this be required by the site.

Job responsibilities

Support the current operational leadership model within Spectrums secure estates (prison health care) around safeguarding adults, Mental Capacity Act, Prevent, and also across all other business units where Spectrum provides services, (this includes community drug and alcohol services, primary care and sexual health services).

Foster positive and collaborative relationships with key partners in prison healthcare, including the HM Prison Service, links with local Safeguarding Adults Boards, Probation Service and other key healthcare partners.

Develop and deliver safeguarding training to staff (virtually and in person) on a wide range of subjects, ensuring evidence-based practice is embedded throughout the organisation

Support staff on sites in the management of safeguarding incidents and provide expert advice and leadership to ensure that policies and procedures are embedded throughout the organisation

Deliver safeguarding supervision/advice/consultation to staff when required, either in a group setting or 1:1 (can be in person or via MS TEAMS)

Develop own knowledge of local safeguarding procedures and familiarity with each localitys safeguarding arrangements, (e.g., linking with local Safeguarding Adults Boards, Designated Professionals for Safeguarding)

Lead on the development of safeguarding adults policies and procedures in line with legislation, research, national and local guidance and commissioning/regulatory requirements.

Represent the Safeguarding Team at Multi-Disciplinary Team Meetings in sites (virtually via MS TEAMS) for complex safeguarding cases and contribute to the development of action plans, risk management whilst providing advice and support to onsite teams. To escalate any complex cases to the Head of Safeguarding.

Develop and complete internal and external safeguarding audits, critically interpret and present audit results and data and implement actions plans

Manage and interpret complex safeguarding data to establish if there are any gaps in safeguarding provision and identify action plans to address them

  • Registered Nurse (RMN, RGN, RNLD) or Professional Social Work Qualification
  • Registration with relevant professional body
  • Relevant 1st level degree qualification or equivalent experience
  • Educated to Master's Level in relevant subject or equivalent experience
  • Level 3 Safeguarding Adults Training or willingness to complete on commencement of post
  • Evidence of continued professional development and training

Desirable
