Job summary

The Intermediate Care Team at City Healthcare Partnership (CHCP CIC) have opportunities for an enthusiastic and motivated Pharmacy Technician to join the team on a permanent basis. We can offer a varied working day which utilises many skills to support a range of health care professionals and patients across the organisation. You will work across a number of our intermediate care bedded units across Hull and East Riding, the majority of your week will be based at our intermediate care unit next to Hull Royal Infirmary.

Within our Intermediate Care Services, the role will require the pharmacy technician to liaise with our team of healthcare professionals in our frailty service to ensure optimisation of medicines, support patients with their medicines adherence and address pharmacy-related queries raised by the care team. The role provides the opportunity to work as part of a multidisciplinary team supporting patients, prescribers, nurses, and social care team to ensure the safe and effective use of medicines. The CHCP Frailty Service, was recently featured on the BBC Panorama Programme.

A sound clinical knowledge is essential for this role as well as robust IT skills. You will have a broad technical and pharmaceutical knowledge relating to the promotion of high quality, effective and safe use of medicines. Applicants are welcome to apply from all backgrounds of pharmacy.

Main duties of the job

You will receive professional support from our established team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. We provide a robust induction plan for your new role and identify and support with any training needs.You must have an independent means of transport to travel around the geographic area our services operate across.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills and have the confidence to engage and influence a wide range of healthcare professionals. Applying candidates must be NVQ Level 3 accredited in Pharmacy Services and registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

Essential

  • Pharmacy Technician, BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent
  • GPhC Technician Registered
  • Evidence of on-going continuing personal learning/professional development

Desirable

  • Completion of additional medicines management qualification or ability to study towards

Knowledge

Essential

  • Demonstrate clinical understanding of drug use
  • Awareness of law and good practice relating to storage and handling of pharmaceuticals
  • Thorough working knowledge and understanding of primary care and medicines management issues
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and of the concepts of clinical effectiveness and a commitment to evidenced based practice
  • Knowledge and understanding of the BNF and Drug Tariff
  • Thorough theoretical and practical knowledge of dispensing process and preparation of medicinal products
  • Knowledge and understanding of standard operating procedures
