Job summary

Are you passionate about helping people to make positive lifestyle changes including to improve fitness and achieve a healthy weight?

We are looking for a highly motivated, team-player to join our successful Wellbeing Service.

Main duties of the job

The role is fast paced and challenging and will be working to support a wide range of communities in St Helens. You should enjoy working with people and be able to take a client-centred approach, with excellent listening and empathy skills.

As a Lifestyle Advisor you be tackling obesity, providing holistic support and exercise guidance including to specialist populations, and setting safe and suitable health plans. The role will work within a multi-disciplinary environment and includes delivering group initiatives, physical activity and working 1-1.

  • Recognised GP referral Qualification or equivalent Level 3 qualification (REPS)
  • Vocational qualification in coaching, teaching and instruction of physical activity (at least level 2 reps)

Desirable

  • Recognised GP referral Qualification or equivalent Level 4 qualification (REPS)
  • Health related degree
  • Nutritional qualification
  • Children's/ Young people's physical activity qualification

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of physiological benefits and fitness programming for a range of medical conditions
  • To understand principles of Motivational Interviewing and models of behaviour change model
  • Knowledge of nutrition and weight management principles
  • Knowledge of relevant Partner agencies and their functions

Desirable

  • Knowledge to run weight management courses

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience of the application of the principles of Motivational Interviewing and use of models of behaviour change
  • Development and delivery of exercise classes for special populations
  • Management of caseloads of clients over a long term period
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Work effectively with a range of external partners
