Could you be our new Communications and Marketing Officer?Ways to Wellness is looking for a new Communications and Marketing Officer to join our friendly, supportive and committed team in Newcastle upon Tyne.Working with our Head of Communications and Marketing, this part-time role offers a great opportunity for anyone wishing to support a vibrant and highly-skilled team whose work changes lives and provides evidence for new ways of working to address health inequalities.Whether you have some experience or are at an early stage in your communications career, applicants should be professional, efficient, and possess excellent written, digital, and interpersonal skills.In return, Ways to Wellness will provide benefits such as 30 days annual leave plus bank holidays, 5% employers pension contribution, a wellbeing cash plan after six months of service, and development opportunities.The full-time equivalent salary for this post is £26,000pa (£15,600pa actual for 22.2 hours a week; flexible working will be considered).Download the Candidate Pack to see the full job description, person specification and terms. Main duties of the job

Job purpose/summary

Ways to Wellness provides a trusted test bed for new ways of working in healthcare, bringing stakeholders together from across academia as well as public, private and charitable sectors, to pilot and prototype interventions that tackle health inequalities, primarily across the North East and North Cumbria.

The role of the Communications and Marketing Officer will be critical to our work, and the successful candidate will help us expand our reach and maximise engagement by building and maintaining excellent relationships with a wide range of internal and external colleagues.

You will support the Head of Communications and Marketing, as well as the wider Senior Management Team, in achieving our strategic aims, helping to ensure we have the right tools and tactics in place to do so.

You will be supported to monitor and evaluate the use of our communications and marketing channels, and assist our project teams with appropriate communications and marketing activity that showcases and shares learnings from their work, while recognising the vital support of our partners.

To ensure best practice, it will be necessary for the successful candidate to remain actively informed of the latest developments in the field of communications and marketing, including new technologies, platforms, and channels.

Ways to Wellness was launched in 2015 to deliver a world-first social prescribing prototype using investment from an outcome-based Social Impact Bond (SIB). Our work has since expanded and we now provide a trusted test bed to pilot and prototype healthcare interventions that empower individuals to improve their health tackling health inequalities while evidencing systemic cost savings.

Main duties

Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including staff, trustees, funders, partner organisations and professionals within the NHS, to maximise engagement in our work

Identifying opportunities to showcase our work

Supporting internal colleagues to plan effective communications and marketing activity that aligns with our organisational strategy

Developing and delivering communications and marketing activity that raises and deepens awareness of, and garners support for, our projects and wider organisational goals

Disseminating information about our work via a range of channels

Supporting the Head of Communications and Marketing in providing a timely response to media and other stakeholder queries where appropriate

Managing communications and marketing assets and collateral, including image creation and media library maintenance

Ongoing monitoring and evaluation of communications and marketing efforts, making change recommendations where appropriate

Applying brand principles and supporting wider compliance to our brand guidelines among staff and partner organisations

Digital communications and social media

Planning, designing, implementing and monitoring activity across digital and social media channels, including the creation of written and visual messaging and assets

Publishing updates and working to maintain the Ways to Wellness website, including ensuring that navigation and accessibility are good for all audiences, and that content remains high-quality and professional

Working with internal and external partners to ensure content remains relevant, accurate, and provides useful and timely information about our work

Where appropriate, considering the potential for the use of additional communications and marketing channels, and supporting their development as required

Printed communications

Develop and/or work with designers to develop and deliver printed communications - leaflets, posters, banners, reports etc. that support our organisational and project goals.

Events

Assisting colleagues and stakeholders with the smooth and successful delivery of conferences and events that support organisational goals and the objectives of our projects

Representing Ways to Wellness at external events

Media relations

Working with the Head of Communications and Marketing to maximise the impact of media opportunities; this includes identifying potential opportunities to showcase and promote our work, and helping to secure and monitor external coverage

Working with internal and external stakeholders to ensure messaging about Ways to Wellness is accurate and up to date

Responding appropriately to media enquiries where appropriate, sometimes out of hours

Monitoring and evaluation

Monitoring website and social media analytics, and reporting on these on a monthly basis

With the team, collating and analysing the findings of our work, and ensuring that we are sharing our learning with the most appropriate stakeholders via the most appropriate channels

Supporting the evaluation of communications and marketing tools and services from external providers to ensure we are getting high-quality, cost-effective support where required

Professional development

Work with your line manager to undertake continual personal and professional development, taking an active part in reviewing and developing the role and its responsibilities

Undertake relevant training as required

Engage in developing professional relationships with the wider team

  • Knowledge and experience of best practice in public relations, communications and marketing acquired in the workplace and/or through training
  • Experience of website publishing, management and maintenance
  • Experience producing reports, promotional material, social media graphics and other communications using industry standard software and programmes e.g. Canva/Adobe Express
  • Experience writing compelling copy, editing and proofreading for a range of audiences
  • Experience using interviewing skills to create engaging stories, case studies and quotations for use across channels
  • Experience using coordinated social and other digital media as primary tools for marketing and communications activity, including scheduling methods and tools
  • Experience using website and social media analytics, and other methods of communications evaluation and reporting
  • An understanding of equality and diversity, including knowledge around creating accessible content for a range of audiences
