Job summary

Respond and manage emergency calls/incidents whilst attending events as an Event Nurse. Provide specialist, clinical, social and holistic care and undertake clinical assessment and interventions in the out of hospital environment, which may include venues such as stadia, concert halls, motorsports tracks, road races etc. Will mainly involve working in treatment units or temporary event medical centres.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Attend events and undertake clinical responsibilities as an Event Nurse in the out of hospital environment.
  • Maintain professional registration as a nurse or midwife and undertake continual professional development relevant to the role; maintaining skill levels and knowledge to enable you to carry out procedures in accordance with your training and policy.
  • Undertake clinical supervision and mentor new and junior personnel, providing feedback on performance in a constructive and non-threatening manner.
  • Carry out duties involving the care and maintenance of equipment and premises. Be responsible for ensuring that all defects and deficiencies of equipment are reported using the correct documentation.
  • Ensure equipment is ready for immediate use at all times and champion responsibility for the cleanliness of patient environments which are maintained to a high standard in line with current recommendations and policy.
  • Maintain accurate patient documentation including confidential details whilst remaining sensitive to the confidential nature of the information being recorded.
  • Conduct dynamic risk assessments when responding to incidents for protection of yourself and others, recognising that the out of hospital environment is often unpredictable and can pose a variety of threats to welfare (physical, environmental and emotional).
  • Adhere to the policy and procedure, including specifically an awareness of the limits of both training and authorisation (including insurance) for additional skills authorised to be used.
  • Ensure appropriate and timely referrals are made to other agencies (including non-clinical referral relating to safeguarding) utilising agreed procedures.
  • Perform any other duties commensurate with these responsibilities, the management level of the post and skills and qualifications of the post-holder.

Experience

Essential

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Decision making capability, both when working alone or working as part of a team.
  • Able to work alone or as part of a multidisciplinary team. Required

Desirable

  • Experience of mentoring students/others.
  • Experience of working in non-traditional nursing roles (i.e. crowd / event medicine).
  • Experience of accessing alternative care pathways.
  • Experience of leading a small team of clinicians (including non-registered colleagues).

Qualifications

  • Registered nurse with the NMC, without cautions or restrictions and evidence of CPD activity within the previous 12 months
  • Immediate Life Support skills, basic First Aid skills
