Job summary

As primary care develops and changes to meet the growing needs of local communities, it is vital that the General Practice Nurse (GPN) workforce also expands and develops. Whilst new GPNs are recruited to primary care multidisciplinary teams they will require support in developing expertise and capacity to deliver care. It is anticipated that many new GPNs will increasingly have little or no prior experience in general practice as they may be newly qualified, moving from other areas into general practice settings, or returning to practice. If newly recruited GPNs are to be retained in general practice it is especially during their early weeks and months in general practice settings to ensure a level of support that guides skill and expertise development, helps to increase confidence and provides a foundation on which a long and rewarding career can be built.

Career Start is a 2year supported programme aiming to embed new and returning nurses into primary care and improve retention. The programme combines training, support and career development into a rounded package.

Aimed at experienced GPNs with an interest in supporting new to practice and return to practice nurses within the Career Start programme. This is a portfolio working opportunity with a chance to develop mentoring and training skills, whilst offering newly qualified and return to practice nurses support to embed into the local primary care landscape.

Please note, this role is as on a self-employed basis.
