Job summary

Reporting to the Managing Director of Odstock Medical Ltd. (OML), the post-holder will work as an autonomous Field-based clinician developing FES provision and representing OML. There is no on call requirement, with some weekend working required for exhibitions, events and course tuition.

Main duties of the job

Support the development and promotion of Odstock Medical Limited (OML) services and activities.

Support and develop existing OML hospital/clinic customers Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) & Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) services.

Develop potential new OML hospital/clinic customers.

Provide clinical advice, support and monitoring of Outreach clinics and clinicians.

Deliver training, education and mentoring for external FES clinicians through OML FES accreditation courses, conferences and exhibitions.

About us

Odstock Medical Ltd. (OML) is a subsidiary of Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust and based in the Laing building on the Hospital Site. We are the UKs leading provider of Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) devices and clinical treatment. We were established in 2005 by Salisbury NHS Foundation trust to build on FES expertise.

Odstock Medicals devices have been designed by Clinical Engineers, Clinicians and patients at the National Clinical FES Centre for over 25 years through collaborative effort.

We want to improve the lives of people with neuromuscular disabilities worldwide by providing the highest quality in medical device technology and service. As well as providing the FES devices, treatment and support, we offer FES training for Clinicians so they can offer FES treatment to their patients too.

KEY TASKS

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITES

Following training and induction to attain FES competencies, the post-holder will be able to demonstrate and apply a range of Upper and Lower limb FES treatments as an autonomous practitioner for both adults and children.

Support and assist with development of hospital/clinic customer clinical best practice in line with relevant national guidelines and OML patient pathways.

To be able to practically demonstrate and apply a range of FES treatments to Healthcare professionals (HCP) and patients.

To be professionally and legally responsible for all aspects of own work including managing clinical risk.

In conjunction with the clinical team, consider service development opportunities and methods to ensure effectiveness of patient care for FES patients and therapy patients.

OML DEVELOPMENT RESPONSIBILITES

Current OML hospital/clinic customers:

  • Gain an understanding of the FES service, including personnel involved, catchment area, patient population, range of treatments offered, local patient commissioning, funding and referral mechanisms and patient pathways.
  • Be able to support with training on the completion of Funding applications.
  • Provide research and clinical evidence support to maintain or develop FES provision as required.
  • Gain an understanding of device requirement projections with any anticipated changes.
  • Provide loan equipment as required.

Potential new OML hospital/clinic customers:

  • Gain an understanding of the existing FES service (if in operation), including personnel involved, catchment area, patient population, range of treatments offered, patient funding mechanisms and patient pathways.
  • Be able to support the formation of a new FES service (or develop existing one) by providing access to research, clinical evidence and clinical guidelines, networking with other clinics/clinicians together with a comprehensive knowledge of options regarding funding, local commissioning, referrals process, patient pathways, device sourcing etc.
  • Provide practical demonstrations of FES to HCP and patient.
  • Provide loan equipment as required.

Outreach:

  • Provide remote or on-site clinical support for training/support of OML best practice.
  • Feedback Outreach clinicians clinical questions/concerns to OML Lead Physiotherapist as required.
  • Liaise closely with the Clinical Operations team to support Outreach management initiatives and assist identifying new Outreach clinicians.
  • Conduct periodic audits of clinical patient treatment and experience standards.

Responsible for the collection and maintenance of information and interactions with all external contact and feeding back to relevant OML teams/personnel.

Producing regular opportunity/progress reports.

Feedback to OMLs clinical and R&D teams about the experience of external clinicians and patients who are using OMLs devices or services, and to participate in related research and audit activities
