Job summary

Outpatient Network are currently seeking Theatre Scrub Nurses to work in our Gynaecological surgery sessions in Swansea

Main duties of the job

  • Preparation of the Operating Room: Ensure that the theatre is sterile and set up with the appropriate surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies, tailored to the specific gynecology procedure.

  • Assisting the Surgical Team: Work closely with the surgeon, anticipating their needs during the operation by passing instruments, sutures, and other supplies in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Maintaining Sterility: Uphold strict sterile techniques and practices to prevent contamination and infection, ensuring a sterile environment throughout the surgery.

  • Patient Care and Safety: Verify patient details, positioning, and surgical sites prior to the procedure, ensuring that safety checks and protocols are adhered to, including surgical timeouts.

  • Instrument Management: Keep an accurate count of surgical instruments, sponges, and needles before, during, and after the procedure to ensure none are retained in the surgical site.

  • Post-Operative Duties: Assist in the cleaning and restocking of the operating room after surgery, and ensure that instruments are decontaminated and prepared for sterilization.

  • Collaboration with the Surgical Team: Work in coordination with surgeons, anesthetists, and other theatre staff to ensure efficient workflow and patient safety during the procedure.

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of the surgical procedure, including instrument counts and any incidents or observations made during surgery.
