Main duties of the job

To assist in the preparation, management, communication, and implementation of the planned hospital maintenance program. Perform regular and routine equipment and facility tests to meet compliance. Track facility service requirements and organise appropriate service contracts. Prepare and submit maintenance reports as required.

Hospital Engineer Location: Ashtead Hospital, Surrey Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Full-time Salary: Depending on experience + Benefits Summary: Ashtead Hospital is one of Surrey's leading private hospitals with an excellent reputation for delivering high quality healthcare for self-pay/insured and NHS patients. The role: We have a great opportunity for a Hospital Engineer to join our team at Ashtead Hospital, based in Surrey. The Hospital Engineer will report into the Operations Manager. You will be one of two engineers supporting the delivery of engineering and maintenance services for the hospital. Duties will include:

  • To assist in the preparation, management, communication, and implementation of the planned hospital maintenance program.
  • Perform regular and routine equipment and facility tests to meet compliance.
  • Track facility service requirements and organise appropriate service contracts.
  • Prepare and submit maintenance reports as required.
  • To ensure breakdowns/disruptions to services are effectively dealt with.
  • Address issues reported on the Hospital Maintenance Log with a timely and priority based response.
  • Tender for works and obtain quotations for local facility required works.
  • Organise tradesmen and external contractors to perform agreed works.
  • Manage contractors on site to ensure security and health & safety compliance.
  • To perform weekly fire alarm tests, record results and participate in fire drill scenario plans.
  • Maintain and manage medical gases in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • Member of the hospital(s) Health and Safety committee
  • Maintain accurate and organised paper and electronic maintenance records.
  • Provide an on-call service to ensure hospital facilities are maintained.
  • Work collaboratively with Engineer colleagues across other hospitals.
  • Skills and Attributes:
  • Core tradesman skills ideally in electrical, plumbing and/or heating services.
  • Demonstrated significant digital literacy and computer skills especially MS Office Word & Excel.
  • Healthcare, or similar facilities maintenance experience
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Evidence of delivering refurbishment and build projects.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently as required
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of the business, including on call cover
  • Demonstrated Customer Service skills
  • City and Guilds qualification in relevant building management, engineering or facility services discipline or equivalent
  • ONC/BTEC in relevant building management, engineering or facility services discipline or equivalent .
  • Routine minor painting and decorating skills. (desirable)
  • Some knowledge of IT cabling/socket installation and fault finding. (desirable)
