Job summary

As one of the UKs largest providers of community-based Outpatient services, Modality LLP is looking to recruit Healthcare Assistants to support delivery of our wide portfolio of services.

Our community outpatient services manage a wide-range of conditions that would otherwise be referred to secondary care. Our team of consultants, GPwERs, specialist nurses and Allied health Professionals are able to provide patients with rapid access to specialist opinion from a choice of locations, nationally.

These roles will support the continued growth of our community outpatient services, enabling patients to receive a range of treatments within the community setting.

Main duties of the job

  • To support delivery of a high quality integrated nursing care for Modality NHS Community and Private Services
  • To work with clinical and non-clinical staff within Modality Community Services and Modality Medical Services to:
    • Provide HCA support to a range of clinics including minor surgery, gynaecology, ultrasound, circumcision, urology, respiratory medicine, general surgery, neurology and private services as well as any new services as and when they arise
    • Provide reception cover for clinic sites, greet patients, book appointments, process payments etc as required
    • Support the day-to-day running of Modality Community/Private services by ordering stock, ensuring rooms and equipment are compliant with CQC standards and carrying out audits as required

Role

  • To support delivery of a high quality integrated nursing care for Modality NHS Community and Private Services
  • To work with clinical and non-clinical staff within Modality Community Services and Modality Medical Services to:
    • Provide HCA support to a range of clinics including minor surgery, gynaecology, ultrasound, circumcision, urology, respiratory medicine, general surgery, neurology and private services as well as any new services as and when they arise
    • Provide reception cover for clinic sites, greet patients, book appointments, process payments etc
    • Support the day-to-day running of Modality Community/Private services by ordering stock, ensuring rooms and equipment are compliant with CQC standards and carrying out audits as required

Principal Activities Clinical

Communicate courteously and effectively with patients, relatives and careers

Carry out health assessments on patients e.g. testing urine, blood pressure checks, heights, weight and taking simple document medical history

Chaperoning patients during clinics

Report all matters pertaining to patient care changes in condition/circumstances to a relevant member of the nursing or medical team as a matter of priority and ensure that a document record is kept

Ensure that the clinical rooms at all times kept in a clean and orderly manner and that relevant equipment is ready for use by nursing and medical staff during clinic sessions

Assist in clinic sessions as directed by members of the clinical team ensuring that all equipment is clean and sterilised following clinic sessions.

Ensure that the drug refrigerator is at correct temperature on a daily basis and that drugs are within their expiry dates and used in correct sequence. Order drugs and other supplies as directed ensuring that adequate levels of stock are available in the surgery. Record fridge temperatures.

Undertake phlebotomy as directed

Act at all times with regard to the confidentiality and sensitivity of issues to do with patients, their care and treatment

Record and document all patient contact

Carry out relevant clerical and reception duties as required

Assist in audits as required e.g. note sampling, data input and information gathering

Attend relevant meetings as required

Have knowledge of and act at all times within the boundaries of Health and Safety legislation and data protection acts

Comply with all service policies and procedures and health, safety and fire regulations

In negotiation and following an annual appraisal, Modality Partnership can determine any additional duties that may be required as long as they do not exceed the level or responsibility expected for the grade of the post.

Principal Activities Education and Development

  • To keep abreast of advances in clinical practice and identify personal training and development needs
  • Support colleagues in their development by encouragement, informal teaching and coaching
  • To attend mandatory training identified through the appraisal system

Principal Activities Professional

  • Contribute and work within the broad framework of the clinical governance agenda
  • Work within evidence based nursing protocols
  • Personally and accurately record all healthcare activity within the patients clinical records ensuring compliance with the NMC standards for record keeping
  • Ensure that communication is effective between all stakeholders giving adequate attention to the complex and sensitive nature of such information. Make all reasonable attempts to overcome any barriers to understanding that may occur, giving due consideration to ethnicity, language, educational ability, barriers caused by illness/distress etc. which may adversely affect communication
  • To work in a flexible manner to meet the needs of the service and as directed by senior staff and GPs

Complete any reports and forms required by the services

Participate in staff surveys and contribute to research based practice

Be aware of statutory national requirements relevant to the job function (e.g. Health and Safety at Work Act)
