Job summary

We are currently looking to recruit a Production Technician / Senior Pharmacy Technician to join our Aseptic Services Unit (ASU). This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering safe, effective, and high-quality aseptic compounding services within a leading independent hospital environment.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will assist in ensuring that aseptic services are delivered in a safe, effective, economical and timely manner. The post holder will be involved in the supervision of day-to-day compounding activities within the aseptic unit and will assist with workload prioritisation, ensuring standards of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) are upheld. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring all their work is carried out in accordance with local Standard Operating Procedures as well as current national legislation and guidelines. The post holder will assist in the safe, efficient and accurate aseptic compounding of parenteral products, as well as other relevant duties such as equipment and facility management, environmental monitoring, stock counts, expiry date checking, general stock management and quality control activities.

Job responsibilities

We are currently looking to recruit a Production Technician / Senior Pharmacy Technician to join our Aseptic Services Unit (ASU). This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering safe, effective, and high-quality aseptic compounding services within a leading independent hospital environment.

The successful candidate will support the day-to-day supervision of cleanroom activities, ensuring all compounding is carried out in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), national legislation, and local Standard Operating Procedures.

You will contribute to the accurate preparation and release of aseptically prepared products, support clinical trials activity, and assist with quality assurance, environmental monitoring, and stock management processes. This role requires strong technical aseptic skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritise workload effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Skills and Experience:

  • Supervise staff working within the cleanroom environment and support the Aseptic Services management team.
  • Manufacture and dispense cytotoxic, hazardous, and monoclonal preparations in accordance with GMP and SOPs.
  • Perform in-process checks and final release of aseptically prepared products (where accredited and authorised).
  • Support clinical trials activity including procurement, preparation, labelling, and documentation of Investigational Medicinal Products (IMPs).
  • Assist in environmental and facilities monitoring, including active air sampling and cleaning schedules.
  • Maintain isolators and equipment, including leak testing and calibration checks.
  • Escalate out-of-specification results and contribute to quality investigations and reporting.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and service development projects.

Essential:

  • Full Science Manufacturing Technician Level 3 qualification
  • OR

  • UK Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Desirable:

    • NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Services or equivalent
    • Pre and In-Process Checking (PIPC) accreditation
    • Experience with gravimetric compounding systems (e.g., BD Cato)
    • GCP training or NIHR certification
    • Experience supervising or training junior staff
