Job summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Bank Speech and Language Therapist to join our Therapies Department. This is a specialist role where you will work autonomously across varied inpatient and outpatient caseloads, including neurological rehabilitation, critical care, and head and neck cancer. You will provide advanced clinical assessment and intervention, contribute to service development, and act as a resource for multidisciplinary teams.

Main duties of the job

The role requires professional and legal accountability for all aspects of speech and language therapy practice, delivering patient care in line with HCPC and RCSLT standards, clinical protocols, and local policies. You will manage complex specialist caseloads autonomously, including neurological rehabilitation, critical care, and head and neck cancer, applying advanced clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice. Responsibilities include developing integrated care pathways, completing and reporting videofluoroscopy and FEES where appropriate, producing timely written reports using outcome measures, and coordinating referrals and discharge planning. You will communicate specialist clinical perspectives confidently within the MDT, advise patients and carers, manage treatment charges in line with policy, and uphold safeguarding responsibilities for adults and children at risk.

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree
  • HCPC registration and RCSLT membership
  • Experience working autonomously at Band 6/7 level in adult SLT
  • Strong knowledge of specialist pathways and evidence-based practice
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to manage complex caseloads independently
  • Proactive, adaptable, and committed to high standards of patient care
  • Desirable:
  • Experience in head and neck cancer, intensive care, and neurorehabilitation
  • Independent use of videofluoroscopy and FEES
  • Private sector experience
