Job summary

The postholder will enable clinical effectiveness by acting as a resource for junior staff, contribute to the development of oncology nursing services, participate in audit and service improvement initiatives and work collaboratively with all members of the core and wider multi-disciplinary team to ensure seamless, high-quality, patient centred care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is a key clinical leader and role model in the inpatient oncology ward. They are proficient to deputise for the Ward Manager in their absence and to routinely act as the Nurse in Charge of shifts. The postholder will provide expert nursing care to patients undergoing treatment for cancer, including direct administration of systemic anti-cancer therapy and optimal management of disease and treatment related symptoms and side effects.

The role We are recruiting a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to join our Oncology Inpatients ward. This is a key clinical leadership role, supporting the Ward Manager and routinely acting as Nurse in Charge of shifts. You will deliver high quality oncology nursing care to patients undergoing cancer treatment, including management of acute oncological presentations, administration of systemic anti-cancer therapy, and compassionate end of life care. This role is ideal for an experienced oncology nurse ready to take the next step into leadership while remaining clinically hands on. Ideal candidate You will be a Registered General Nurse with current NMC registration and experience working in an oncology inpatient setting. You will be confident acting as Nurse in Charge, able to prioritise complex clinical workloads, and comfortable supporting others through leadership and mentorship. Essential

  • Minimum 2 years post registration experience in oncology nursing
  • Strong knowledge of cancer treatments and treatment related toxicities
  • Experience of inpatient and end of life care
