Job summary

* To carry and respond to the bleep at all times. * To manage each patient in conjunction with a named consultant, and to implement the guidelines laid down by the ICU Consultant advisor to ensure that all critically ill patients receive the highest standard of medical care.

Main duties of the job

* To provide support and work closely with all medical, nursing and other appropriate staff to facilitate the excellent standard of care given to critically sick patients at The London Clinic. * To review all patients on the critical care units at least three times per day and to undertake rounds with the consultants. * To provide emergency care for severely deteriorating patients likely to require high dependency critical care, pending the arrival / input of the designated consultant and / or the identification and involvement of the consultant anaesthetist / intensivist. * To keep all consultants informed in changes in critical patient's condition and to agree and action any new treatment. * To ensure all records are efficiently and accurately set up maintained and utilised, including manual and computerised records for reporting and audit procedures

You'll assess deteriorating patients across the hospital, support emergency calls, and ensure continuity of care during your shifts.   • Reviewing ICU patients at least three times daily and attending consultant-led rounds
  • Leading the emergency medical response for deteriorating or at-risk patients across the hospital
  • Acting as second responder to cardiac arrest calls (the crash bleep is held by the RMO)
  • Supporting the Outreach team and facilitating safe patient transfers
  • Providing support to clinical assistants and nursing teams on wards
  • Maintaining accurate documentation and contributing to clinical audits, morbidity reviews and local guidelines
  • Assisting with anaesthetics and emergency care in theatre where appropriate to your skillset
  • Actively participating in clinical governance, handovers, and medical teaching
  • Skills and Experience We're looking for a confident ICU doctor who is committed to excellence in acute care, with the ability to work well independently and as part of a team. Essential:
  • Full GMC registration and MBBS
  • Minimum 3 years post-qualification experience
  • 12 months of experience in intensive care
  • 6 months of experience in anaesthetics or proven airway management competencies
  • ALS certification (PILS/APLS is desirable)
  • Strong skills in intubation, line insertion, emergency airway management, and mechanical ventilation
  • Excellent communication, clinical judgement and organisational skills
  • Desirable:
  • FRCA/MRCP
  • Qualification in care of the critically ill
  • Experience in isolated site anaesthesia or inter-hospital transfer
  • Involvement in clinical research or publication
