Job summary

As a member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT), they will work collaboratively with other members of the MDT to provide the highest standards of specialist nursing care to patients with complex palliative care and End of Life Care (EoLC) needs. The post holder will facilitate and support healthcare teams to implement evidence-based practice, and will contribute to the development of Palliative and EoLC services at The London Clinic.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work in a team with the Consultant in Palliative Medicine and one other Palliative Care and Symptom Control CNS at The London Clinic. They will be required to complete comprehensive and holistic assessment of patients with life limiting illnesses and formulate care plans to meet the palliative care needs of patients.

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Palliative Care and Symptom Control CNS, in a 12-month fixed term post, to work in our well-established and dynamic Specialist Palliative care and Symptom Control Team (SPSCT). Join our leading independent sector cancer centre based at the purpose-built Duchess of Devonshire Cancer Wing of The London Clinic in Marylebone - where excellence in patient care, innovation, and multidisciplinary collaboration are at the heart of everything we do. The London Clinic is one of the UK's largest independently owned non-profit hospital, and we have been providing exceptional care since 1932. We have 8 premises, where we perform highly complex procedures as well as routine surgery & medicine. Our main hospital spans 8 floors comprising of 234 beds and 10 theatres, and The Duchess of Devonshire Wing is our award-winning cancer centre, which includes state-of-the-art radiotherapy, chemotherapy suites and 47 dedicated patient bedrooms for Oncology & Haematology patients.   • Within the team, you will join our Palliative Medicine Consultant and another experienced Palliative Care and Symptom Control CNS, helping to deliver Gold Standard care to patients with malignant and non-malignant life limiting illnesses. Working within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team of oncologists, nurses and allied health professionals, you will play a key role in delivering individualised, evidence-based care, whilst optimising support for patients and those important to them. Key Duties:
  • Carry out comprehensive assessments addressing physical, emotional, spiritual and social needs
  • Develop and review person-centred care plans in partnership with patients and families
  • Provide clinical advice and emotional support to colleagues, patients and carers
  • Work closely with ward teams and external partners to ensure continuity of care
  • Contribute to education, training, and service evaluation initiatives across the Clinic
  • Skills and Experience: We're looking for someone who:
  • Is a registered nurse (NMC) with extensive experience in oncology and palliative care
  • Has at least one year of experience as a CNS in palliative care
  • Has completed or is working towards a postgraduate qualification in palliative care
  • Is confident managing a complex caseload with autonomy
  • Has strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to support, guide and influence others
