We have an exciting opportunity for a Medical Laboratory Assistant (NHS Band 4 Associate Practioner equivalent) to join our Histopathology department. This role is a based in in our Central London Hospital (NW1 4LJ). We are also offering a competitive salary range £27,606-£32,688 of per annum plus a fantastic array of benefits. Job Profile The Medical Laboratory Assistant is based in our Histopathology department and provides assistance to the consultants and Biomedical Scientists in the day-to-day work of the histopathology laboratory. * Job Type: Medical Laboratory Assistant * Hours: 37.5 Hours/ Week including 1 in 4 Saturdays on a rota basis. * Salary: £27,606-32,688 * Location: The London Clinic, 20, 22 Devonshire Place, London W1G 6HL * Benefits package: Contributory pension scheme (total annual contribution up to 20%). Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To ensure that all specimens received in the department are dealt with promptly, accurately and according to procedures.
  • To undertake preliminary preparation of specimens.
  • To ensure the prompt despatch of samples needing to be referred to external laboratories and maintain accurate records of work sent out of the department.
  • To investigate and, where possible, resolve any discrepancies with specimens received and report any unresolved issues to a biomedical scientist.
  • To collate slides and reports for multidisciplinary meetings.
  • To undertake the handling and preparation of all non-gynae and gynae cytology specimens.
  • To assist BMS staff members by performing microtomy and embedding of tissue samples.
  • To perform and log all quality control checks performed within the laboratory areas, assisting BMS staff on the quality control bench and issuing slides out to pathologists.
  • To carry out daily slide and block filing and retrieval of material including from off-site storage areas.
