Lead Pharmacist Haematology and Aseptic Services (FTC)

We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Pharmacist Haematology and Aseptic Services to join our Pharmacy Department on a 12 month fixed term basis at The London Clinic in Central London, W1G 6BW, with a competitive salary on offer.

The oncology/haematology service is based at the purpose-built Duchess of Devonshire Wing, consisting of 4 inpatient wards, a busy day-case/outpatient facility and a radiotherapy unit providing diagnosis and treatment for patients.

There are two pharmacies at The London Clinic, the one at the Duchess of Devonshire Wing provides aseptic chemotherapy reconstitution service for all patient receiving chemotherapy for cancer and

Main duties of the job

As Lead Pharmacist in Haematology and Aseptic Services you will act as the haematology lead for the London Clinic pharmacy and manage clinical pharmacy services to all haematology areas as well as manage pharmacy technical services staff.

Plan, deliver and coordinate a programme of continuous service improvements and audits relating to medicines optimisation in haematology areas

Work closely with other lead pharmacists to provide clinical pharmacy services to haematology ward areas in a consistent manner.

Share the management of the rotational clinical pharmacists at the Duchess of Devonshire Wing of The London Clinic.

Lead an effective clinical pharmacy service to all Haematology areas including SCT and ATMP

Develop, implement and monitor Intrathecal chemotherapy policies, training and practice as the intrathecal lead for the Clinic.

Provide support to nursing areas to ensure compliance with legislation and good clinical practice initiatives.

Role Summary:

Promote the rational use of drugs within the Clinic especially in reference to high value drugs and the Duchess of Devonshire Wing.

Ensure Pharmacy services and associated training for pharmacists comply with JACIE standards

Lead Intrathecal Pharmacist

Principal Activities/Main Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Pharmacy

Lead an effective clinical pharmacy service to all Haematology areas including SCT and ATMP

Develop, implement and monitor Intrathecal chemotherapy policies, training and practice as the intrathecal lead for the Clinic.

Provide support to nursing areas to ensure compliance with legislation and good clinical practice initiatives.

Provide expert advice to facilitate introduction of new drugs for cancer treatment and supportive therapies.

Provide support to nursing and other healthcare teams to identify opportunities for systems improvements, practice changes to enhance patient experience, and efficient and cost effective services.

Provide appropriate and assimilated medicines information to doctors, nursing staff, other healthcare professionals and patients

Management/Operational

Provide support to ensure safe, efficient and accurate dispensary and aseptic services in the Duchess of Devonshire Wing.

Direct, supervise and manage rotational clinical pharmacists working in cancer services.

Deputise for the Head of Pharmacy on a rotational basis.

To work closely with the Associate Director Cancer Services to ensure that Pharmacy services are in alignment with other services at the Duchess of Devonshire Wing.

Contribute to the recruitment and retention of high quality staff through appropriate selection, induction, regular appraisals/assessments and ongoing development.

Develop and maintain rosters for Pharmacists including late cover (and weekend duties as per contractual agreements).

Electronic Prescribing

Build and maintain chemotherapy protocols using appropriate governance processes.

Collaborate effectively within the electronic prescribing team to:

o Provide specialist clinical pharmacy input and support including configuration and maintenance as a super user of the software.

o Develop and deliver training and provide support for new consultants and pharmacy staff.

o Develop policies and processes associated with electronic prescribing.

o Develop systems for maintaining safe prescribing and service delivery in the event of failure.

o Identify and evaluate risks associated with electronic prescribing, develop and implement appropriate solutions.

o Develop and produce reports to aid audit

Technical and QA Services

Provide managerial oversight to the aseptic reconstitution service.

Manage the Senior Pharmacy Technician for aseptic services

To work with the Senior Pharmacy Technician for aseptic services to facilitate service improvements
