Main duties of the job

The main duties of a healthcare assistant (HCA) in a gynaecology outpatient department typically include:

  1. Patient Support: Welcoming patients, helping them feel comfortable, and preparing them for examinations or procedures.

  2. Chaperoning: Acting as a chaperone during intimate examinations to support patient dignity and safety.

  3. Clinical Assistance: Assisting nurses and doctors during procedures (e.g. colposcopies, biopsies), preparing equipment, and maintaining cleanliness.

  4. Administrative Tasks: Managing patient notes, updating records, and helping with clinic flow.

  5. Infection Control: Cleaning and preparing rooms between patients, ensuring all infection prevention protocols are followed.

  6. Stock Management: Checking and restocking supplies and equipment.

These responsibilities support the smooth and safe running of the clinic while ensuring high-quality patient care.
