Job responsibilities

St Josephs Hospice is one of the UKs largest hospices and is based in the East end of London serving a culturally diverse population with a higher than average demand for palliative and end of life interventions. We provide high quality specialist care for patients with life limiting illness, in a variety of settings.

An exciting opportunity has arisen as Therapies Manager at St Josephs. You will work as part of committed and creative team, which offers innovative, holistic and person-aligned care and support to people with palliative and end life care needs, and to their families and care givers.

The postholder will provide operational management to the therapies services; this includes Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy Dietetics, SLT, Complementary Therapies service and our specialist Empowered Living Service and Neuro-Support Group. Our workforce includes both paid staff and volunteers, who contribute immeasurably to the nature, quality, richness and purpose of our care-giving.

The common thread that unites all aspects of the role is the provision of the highest quality therapies service, and for the postholder to actively create opportunities to develop the therapies service in the pursuit of optimising quality of life for palliative patients and their families. The successful candidate will also be a senior clinical member and leader across inpatient, community and day services, working in close partnership with other hospice managers, Heads of Department and clinical colleagues.

We are looking for an experienced, committed and creative manager who has a professional qualification in relevant therapies discipline and is registered with the relevant professional body. You will have previous or current experience in managing healthcare staff and services, ideally in the context of a palliative care or related health setting, and a demonstrable track record of providing supportive and effective leadership in areas such as service personalisation, quality improvement, partnership building and the successful delivery of projects on time and to budget. You will have a strong grasp of, and commitment to, the model and ethos of Rehabilitative Palliative Care

The job will be based at St Josephs Hospice in Hackney in East London. Some local travel is essential. Full support and training will be given in all aspects of the job by the hospice. There are excellent opportunities for learning and professional development. The post holder will report to the Head of Supportive Care.

We offer 27 days holiday plus 8 public holidays (pro rata) and excellent pension scheme. Applications are subject to enhanced DBS check (previously CRB).

This role is subject to the requirements of The Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) (Amendment) (Coronavirus) Regulations 2021. Appointment is conditional on successful applicants providing evidence to our satisfaction that they are vaccinated, or are exempt from vaccination due to clinical reasons.

Please note: The post holder is required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 unless clinically exempt.
