Job summary
To provide operational management of the
multidisciplinary Therapies service at St Josephs Hospice, including
Physiotherapy, Occupational
Therapy, SLT, Dietetics and Complementary Therapies provision. The SALT and Dietetics service provided by way of a Service
Level Agreement with Homerton Hospital NHS Trust is managed by the Head of
Supportive Care.
To maintain the highest quality of Therapies service
provision and to actively identify and create opportunities to develop the
Therapies service in the constant pursuit of widening access and optimising
quality of life for palliative patients, in line with the Hospice vision and
strategic plan.
To be a senior clinical member and leader within the
specialist multidisciplinary palliative care team, working
in close partnership with hospice managers, HODs and clinical colleagues to
oversee and ensure the delivery of high quality provision to patients,
families, and important others.
To provide leadership on multidisciplinary
rehabilitative palliative care, the principles and philosophy of supporting
palliative patients to live as independently as possible, both within the
hospice and externally.
To serve as a direct provider of care engaging in
the assessment, delivery and evaluation of programmes of treatment for
individuals, and the professional development and support of other staff
involved in their care.
This
post is 30 hours per week
Main duties of the job
In conjunction with Head of Supportive Care, ensure
that Therapies service structure is fit for purpose in terms of mix of
professions, experience and use of volunteers. Making recommendations to
support restructuring where appropriate.
Manage recruitment of new staff, working in
conjunction with senior team members to undertake interviewing, probationary
support and assessment, taking proactive steps to ensure optimum service cover
is in place at all times.
Hold overarching responsibility for the
co-ordination and delivery of high quality services to patients under the care
of St. Josephs Hospice, ensuring a consistent, transparent, equitable approach
to the receipt of referrals, assessment, planning and evaluation of care.
Lead on the development and review of relevant
policies, procedures, clinical guidelines, operational frameworks and clinical
standards, working closely with team members to ensure a multi-disciplinary
approach.
Manage service provision in times of staff shortage
utilising appropriate prioritisation in response to patient need across all
clinical settings (inpatient, outpatient and community), maintaining open
communication with multidisciplinary colleagues and referrers.

an experienced, committed and creative manager who has a professional
qualification in relevant therapies discipline and is registered with the
relevant professional body. You will have previous or current experience
in managing healthcare staff and services, ideally in the context of a
palliative care or related health setting, and a demonstrable track record of
providing supportive and effective leadership in areas such as service
personalisation, quality improvement, partnership building and the successful
delivery of projects on time and to budget. You will have a strong grasp of, and
commitment to, the model and ethos of Rehabilitative Palliative Care

essential. Full support and training will be given in all aspects of the job by
the hospice. There are excellent
