An exciting opportunity has arisen at The Christie Pathology Partnership (CPP) for a Support Secretary to join our Histopathology department.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Support Secretary to continue their professional development at one of the largest cancer centres in Europe.
We are looking for a keen, enthusiastic individual with an interest in developing administrative services to help us continue to deliver exceptional, high-quality integrated care to our patients. CPP is an excellent place to train and develop new skills, and further study will be supported.
A level III clerical/secretarial certificate (eg RSA, NVQ) or equivalent is required. Previous clerical/secretarial experience is also essential. AMSPAR certification would be advantageous.

Main duties of the job
Essentially, the role is to provide clerical support to the Histopathology team comprising of Clinical Histopathologists and laboratory personnel, ensuring that a high standard of service is maintained, to meet the needs of the patient and those of the department.
To keep accurate, up-to-date patient records using manual and electronic systems: TDHC Histology database, CareFlow, CWP etc.. which involves data entry and maintenance of various databases. Other administrative duties include covering workload during absences, filing of paperwork, blocks and slides and dealing with multi- disciplinary meetings.

To work as part of a team and to
provide clerical and secretarial support to teams of Clinical Consultant
Histopathologist, SpRs, BMS and Pathology Office staff includes general
office duties and ensuring the timely dissemination of medical reports, for clinicians
to treat their patients
Filing
Scanning paper files and reports
into databases
Ensuring accurate patient
demographics when inputting personal and clinical data into on to databases and
CareFlow systems may involve resolving subsequent discrepancies.
Pathology Opinion and Review
cases:
Data entry, sorting and labelling
of blocks and slides for all opinion and
review cases
facilitate clinical investigations
by extracting information from patient case notes, recording all relevant
clinical details and initiating letters and emails. Dealing with any subsequent
clerical and technical problems that arise.
TDHC and CareFlow and dealing with
any discrepancies
Patient case note tracking using
the CareFlow system
Return pathology material to the
referring hospital recording relevant information for audit purposes using
manual and/or electronic systems
To provide clerical and
organisation assistance in connection with trials and joint research projects
(involving clinical departments and external bodies)
Organising special deliveries with
various couriers
Prepare various Multidisciplinary
Team meetings, ensuring all relevant information and pathological material is
available in a timely manner on behalf of the Consultant Histopathologists
Work with Divisional Secretarial
Manager, Histology Services Manager and colleagues to improve quality and range
of services, with resources being managed according to agreed policies and
priorities
Attend appropriate training and
education sessions at the request of the manager
To undertake any other duties
commensurate with the post that are required by the Histology Service Manager
