Job summary
In the pivotal role of Head of Clinical Quality & Patient Safety, you will provide strategic input to our leadership team, ensuring that quality and governance considerations are embedded into our overarching strategy and objectives.
You will be responsible for leading and developing the strategic direction for quality governance, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, and patient-focused care in line with all regulatory standards.
Main duties of the job
Reporting into the Clinical Quality & Governance Director, you will provide strong and visible leadership to your team and the wider organisation. You will shape and lead the strategic direction for quality governance, encompassing all elements of clinical and medical governance, including patient experience, CAS, Duty of Candour, NICE, policies and processes, and research.
You will ensure alignment of governance and patient safety activities with the business's long-term goals and priorities. Your responsibilities will include healthcare regulatory compliance, leading patient safety investigations, and acting as the organisational Freedom to Speak Up Guardian and Caldicott Guardian.
You will lead the governance agenda for the organisation, setting strategy and direction for the team, and managing clinical and medical governance, complaints, claims, and the risk and compliance system (InPhase). You will also handle patient complaints and feedback and ensure compliance with CQC regulations.
Additionally, you will deputise for the Clinical Quality & Governance Director at key committees and meetings, both internally and externally.
This is a remote role, with the successful candidate ideally based in the Nottingham or London area. There will be regular national travel, requiring flexibility around travel, with an expectation of several site visits per month.

Essential
- You will be a registered professional with a current HCPC or NMC registration. You should have extensive experience in senior leadership roles within healthcare governance, patient safety, and quality, with a proven track record of operating at a senior level and reporting to the Board/Executive Committee.

- With an excellent understanding of governance and patient safety, your knowledge should encompass governance, regulation, quality improvement, patient safety, and audit, along with clinical effectiveness and corporate governance.

- You should have experience working across organisational boundaries, developing productive partnerships, and transforming healthcare services to improve patient experience. Strong leadership qualities, the ability to inspire and motivate others, and excellent project management skills are essential.

- You will possess excellent communication skills, with the the ability to set and drive strategy, and a good understanding of healthcare regulations, especially related to CQC.

- The role has six direct reports, and the ideal candidate will be able to inspire and motivate their team, making complex decisions in times of competing priorities.
