Job summary

We are looking for a new Speciality Doctor to join our Worcester and/or Bromsgrove site. Full or Part time applicants considered. Shift patterns include weekends and an evening session on a rota basis (once a month).

Speciality Doctors play a vital role at Newmedica. The speciality Doctor will be expected to offer a general ophthalmology service. In particular the delivery of high-volume cataract surgery and/or clinical activity.

The thought of eye surgery can be a daunting prospect for patients to deal with, so our Speciality Doctor needs to be empathetic and friendly and able to put patients at ease. The Speciality Doctor role at Newmedica offers a modern hospital-based environment with opportunities for clinical learning. Our patients have a variety of interesting clinical cases which offer more complex decision-making scenarios. This is therefore a great role for a Speciality Doctor looking for personal development and to expand their professional horizons.

Main duties of the job

Alongside the mandatory qualifications the following things will be advantageous:

  • Previous hospital eye service or private eye clinic experience
  • 85% clinical programmed activities, with 15% supporting professional activities
  • Knowledge of clinical practice and aware of current developments in Ophthalmology
  • Capable of working in a high-volume clinical setting, seeing circa -22-24 patients per day in an outpatient setting
  • Opportunity to have regular theatre sessions dependent on experience and sub-speciality interest
  • To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • The training and coaching of others
  • The desire for and commitment to continuous professional development
  • A competent user of computer systems and programmes
  • An excellent grasp of the English language both verbally and in written format
  • A good team player happy to jump in and support others when required

of clinical competence

Experience of incident and complaint management

UK Hospital experience

Evidence of recently published research or case reports
